Is this for real? Seriously?

I'm almost speechless. Does Hollywood not get it? The audience does not wish to be preached to. I'm stunned that money is being spent on this tripe. Global Warming? You're planning on making a movie about global warming... got any scripts lying around about Maternal Impression? Atmospheric Skin? Flat Earth? Maybe if you get really, really, REALLY stoned the 3-D might make it worth checking out, except that there are plenty of 3-D flicks that are actually entertaining.

reply

The audience does need to be preached to, because things aren't changing fast enough.

reply

And we all know that animated anthropomorphic amphibians are the most effective conduits by which to expedite "change."

That may be true for you...but our truth is that the movie sucked. Your truth is wrong.

reply

I agree. Not that there isn't a problem, but I'm sick and tired of
getting a sermon EVERYWHERE. I want to be entertained and escape all of
the other sermons for a couple of hours!
It's like all the nature programs now; nothing but preachy sermons about
how this is in danger of extinction, or that is dying, or the ozone is
disappearing etc. How about simply educating me on the species and allowing
us a chance to be in awe and be amazed at nature?

Why does EVERYTHING now have that price tag?

jeez, it's not preaching if you don't see it.

Seems kinda like Happy Feet. I saw that movie expecting dancing penguins and your typical animated hijinks then all of a sudden WHAM, right out of abso-fricken-loutley no where you got an environmental message shoved in your face.

reply

I don't see what's wrong with basing a movie on real events, whether you want to hear about it or not. It's easy to want to hide and escape from the realities of the world, but if we don't see it (or, at least if the young people don't see it), what's going to change? Maybe instead of crying about how you're sick of nature-based shows and movies shoving a message at you, you could actually take a HINT and DO something. If more people actually listened to the message then we wouldn't have to make movies like this, now would we?

I'm just gonna come out and say it, global warming is *beep* Al Gore just bought an 8 million dollar house. Ya know where? On the beach. Do you really think if he actually believed the ice caps were going to melt and flood the earth he would live in the first place to be devastated? When oxygen first came around it was a poisonous gas that killed creatures. A biproduct of certain plants. Now, you and me will die without it. Things change. Slowly. The globe warms and it cools. If the global warming being advertised actually exists, nothing you or me or anyone else does will change it and its effects will take place during hundreds if not thousands of years. It's like saying the sun is going to explode and we all need to buy purple bananas to stop it. It doesn't *beep* matter. If the sun is going to explode, it's going to explode so we might as well enjoy ourselves until it does. Not watch movies about dying a horrible death because of the sun exploding. Now, let's just say I'm wrong. Let's say the global warming being advertised actually does exist and it's going to kill us all in 5 years. What can we do about it? Buy some swirly lightbulbs and pay 20 bucks to see a movie about turtles? If they wanted to put a message across they would release the movie for free online. Not emit tons and tons of Co2 into the atmosphere sending reels to theaters and forcing you to release emissions driving to the theater. So, in conclusion: global warming is *beep* if it does exist we're all screwed and there's nothin we can do about it, the people making this movie don't give a flying *beep* about the environment, they just want to make some money from the "green" movement.

Though you may be right about Al Gore and the producers of this movie just trying to make money, there' no denying that humanity has caused a lot of the environmental issues we're facing today - that's not up for debate. The effects, however, are. Besides, you're only looking at one point of global warming, and that's the threat that we're all gonna die because we haven't bought our swirly light bulbs. Well, believe it or not, that's not the only thing we have to care about, or prevent, for that matter. Pollution to the atmosphere causes "habitat displacement" to many animals on the planet, forcing them to relocate out of an environment they've spent millions of years adapting to, as an example. Things aren't changing slowly as you put it, it's changing quite rapidly. True, Al Gore didn't help anyone by using fake stats and facts in his presentations, but it doesn't mean that the message isn't valid. And what's the harm in trying to use less carbon emissions and energy, anyways? Even if it's just to lessen the amount of smog in our cities, it's still worthwhile. Prancing around saying that it's just a scam and there's nothing we can do about it anyways is THE WORST attitude you can have towards.. Well, anything really.

Al Gore has more than enough money to move house if sea-levels rise, but that's not the point here. Stop muddying the issues; it's obvious to anyone with even half a brain that mankind is having a _massive_ negative impact on the planet. If you believe otherwise, you're a total bloody tool...

Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit shootin' smack...

Thank you. Anyone who doesn't see how humans have nearly destroyed the planet are either blind or insane. Even if a person is not sold on the idea of global warming, what about the oil spills, the dumping of garbage, whaling and fishing practices, and/or any of the other issues presented in this film? Are they all creations of Al Gore too?

This animated movie is relatively well done, with some decent music and messages other than the environmental ones (i.e. friendship, finding one's purpose in life, etc.). It might not be everyone's cup of tea; fine. But to go apechit over the "global warming" theme and trash the film because of it is just plain stupid, IMO.

The flaw with your argument, is that you assuming that global warming is caused by man made CO2. And anyway, isn't it called climate change now anyway, cause then even when it snows they can blame it on climate change. Scientists at CERN have now said that cloud formation is caused by cosmic rays, and that the less clouds there are, the hotter the earth gets, as more of the suns energy can reach the earth. There is so much rubbish with CO2 man made global warming, and it is worth around $2Billion annually, from taxes etc.
Not one scientist in the whole world, knows what 75% of the universe is even made of. They call it dark matter, but they have absolutely no idea what it is. But yet we are lead to believe that they know, 100% that man made CO2 is to blame for climate change, even though there is now very very strong evidence to say it is cosmic radiation instead, yet bet most people have no idea about this.
It's amazing how people just eat this crap up, and just believe everything they are told.

reply

Well too bad for you. Because clearly you need to be preached to still, because you're not getting it if you have a problem.
Quit *beep* up the world *beep*

Preaching can still make for good and/or fun movies. Like Happy Feet, The Day After Tomorrow, Finding Nemo, etc. Don't write this movie off until you've seen it.

reply

Well actually, this is not a Hollywood film. So we'll never know whether Hollywood does not get "it". And the 3D is pretty sweet actually. It's kinda in your face, which a lot of people seem to dislike (I don't).

reply

I think this film will be more successful in Europe than in the United States. By the way the idea of this film sounds a little like Finding Nemo but I hope Sammy's Adventures has a complete other story.

reply

just looking at the poster seeing it for the first time like a week ago, my first thoughts where a sequel to Finding Nemo, wich sadly it wasn't..

still havn't seen it so can't comment much on this movie.

Have u heard of free choice??? its also called free choice to not see movies that u don't believe in watching. my kids are 6 and 4 and they absolutely loved this movie and got the messages and whatever, and i was glad a movie like this served that simple purpose. Besides, its a fantastic piece of animation, among the best in the industry for 3D. Lets appreciate the work of the artists involved instead of trashing it in a one sided diatribe...

I too thought it was an excellent childrens movie. I think people read too much into things now a days. Though I did get the hidden message about our planet ;) Almost brought a tear to my eye. All I know is, my niece and nephew loved it. That was the goal. Certain childrens movies shaped me into the person I am today. This is one of those types of movies. I gave it a 9! I don't give 10's. Always room for improvement.

They better release it here in the states!!!

its a kids film more about the 2 turtles finding each other (a love story really) than it is about global warming. maybe you should watch it rather than just bashing what you see in a 30 second trailer
