Enjoyed this film very much, right up until the ending.... then I was very disappointed.
They should've let Julia find the baby at the end of the movie, when they stepped into the boats or right afterwards.
This seemed silly.
Haven't seen the movie yet, but red the book '1953' though, and it ends the same way..
I actually hoped that the movie had a happy ending :p
The book was made after the film, so this isn't totally surprising.

It's a DUTCH movie, not a Hollywood made movie where they ONLY have happy endings.
shareSo.. it's not like the movie wasn't dramatic enough. Her mother and sister both died! And it seems illogical that only the hotelowner's wife seem to know that the woman who took Ernst lost her own boy. It's a small village, there must've been some more people who knew! It didn't make sense!
sharethe ending was OK,,, I would have hoped that the lady running the hotel would have fessed up , I do not know if any of U noticed that but the lady taking little Ernest on the boat put him in a wicker COFFIN...
