Another Magical film?

Why do people keep putting up with films with a Magical Negro character? Djimon Honsou should be ashamed of himself for playing this type of character yet again.

Exactly smdh. I feel this kind of movie is an early and subtle entrance to the emasculation of the black male. However, with the tables flipped it's a "White Savior" concept which is a lose also. It's a very primative and limited way to utilize a strong black character but then again it's Hollywood we're talking about.

It's based on a true story that largely revolves around the relationship between a white man who needs to be woke and a black man that God uses to wake him.

So who should they have gotten to play Denver in order to satisfy your faux racial sensitivity? Jim Carrey? Jesse Eisenberg? Drew Carey?

It's based on a true story

What "true" story? That some woman had a dream about a man who was real? Is this another Jesus Take The Wheel-type movies with "miracles" based on something someone obviously made up in their own head?

Seriously, it's a true story. It isn't racist that he's black.

@kinight0f94 LOL! That not a good excuse. And I don't care what anyone says, there is this theme in Hollywood of the Magic Black Man, and it is getting very old. Who cares if it is a true story? It's still offensive, just like The Help. I wonder if you believe The Green Mile is true, and doesn't have a hint of racism despite how much you like MCD!!! (sarcasm)

Always look for the positive in every situation.

First, no, I don't think Green Mile is true. Second, if you actually read the book, you would know it isn't a magic black man trope. What about the commercial makes you think that? These two people saw a man, broken, and tried to help him, he ended up becoming a part of their family. Would it be different if he was white? No, the story would be the same. But if they cast him as a white man, people would be outraged and call it Whitewashing.

Let's flip the script and make the couple black and the homeless guy white and see how that plays out. Still based on a true story.

LMAO! I followed Tariq from here. Looks like another slave movie.
