Season 2 is crap

The brother and his military shtick is really annoying and I miss Krandall and Gary's dad. The black guy has been annoying in every tv show he's been on. And you know Gary's gonna get a sports radio show or they wouldn't have gone to the expense of the new set. I think I will pull the plug on this.

You know I agree with everything you said. Season one was pretty good and this season so far is just OK. The brother is annoying.

reply

I agree, this season sucks! I have taken it off my DVR recording list. Too bad they ruined the format.

So First season was better? Maybe I'll try to find it. I like Jay Mohr. "Action" was one of my favorite series of all time. I was listening to him on the Jim Rome show the other day and decided to give Gary Unmarried a try. The season opener was okay, but last episode with the rich boyfriend spoiling the kids was really bad. It also didn't help that they spent half the episode licking the boots of Al Gore. Only in Hollywood do they believe that 11yr old girl would be in awe of Al Gore.

Ah well...will have to find season 1 and give it a shot.

Yea almost stopped watching after that last ep..season 2 just wasn't doin it for me..specially since season 1 was so good, there was episodes were i didn't stop laughing from start to finish. anyway just got done with ep 4 of season 2..definitely the best episode so far in this season =]

Agreed!! I was very pleased they brought back Gary's dad for the Thanksgiving episode. I like Paula Marshall a lot, but her character is just getting so bland.

Is Mitch (Rob Riggle) back? :)

I am having difficulty feeling any emotional investment or interest in the story lines right now. The whole Gary/Sasha thing is not believeable and leaves me flat. They need to stop beating a dead horse. Paula Marshall is doing the best she can with the weak story lines, but it is difficult to get excited about Allison and her supposed boyfriend, when we know nothing about him or how they met. Is he an old friend,is he widowed or divorced, have kids? One week she is about to fly off with him for a weekend and meet his parents, and then for 2 weeks we don't see him or hear anything about him. Did they break up because he got ticked off that she blew off their weekend (and lost out on a non-refundable plane ticket) just to cook dinner for Gary and his date. That would probably do it for me. Time to push the restart button on both of these relationships.

reply

Got your wish, rich guy cheats and gets dumped.

My biggest peeve is the crutches. 4 or 5 times this episode they made references to things that wouldn't be possible for a kid wearing a boot and needing crutches. Most notably comparing a pair of shoes to another kid, as well as running down the hall after a girl. Is it really that hard to come up with alternative dialog considering the kid's injured? Lazy, lazy lazy.

Pretty much sums up the whole season. They'd do better just firing everybody on the show and let Jay Mohr and Paula Marshal run things.

Oh and one more giant complaint. Someone tell the lame ass sidekick to stop trying to be Mitch Hedberg. The speech pattern was natural to the late comic and that's part of why he was so great. This clown is forcing it and it's coming across worse than the script itself.

Season 2 is a far cry from the laid back everyman comedy of last season, such a sad sad thing to see.

Should be a lesson to women. Beware of guys with big yachts and even bigger egos.

Glad to see I am not the only one scratching their head and wondering how they ruined a perfectly good sitcom. Mohr is talented but it was much better last season when he was just a blue collar guy with his own business - much more relatable than - hey - look - I have my own sports talk radio show!! They have lost their way this year. It was a much better show last year - funnier and smarter.

reply

Wow... I must have low expectations or make a bad critic. I think they are doing great. I'm still laughing off the couch with almost all the episodes. Keep them up please! Good to hear other peoples thoughts though.

reply

I've chuckled at times this season. I just can't get over the fact that they ignored the kids foot injury. I mean for goodness sakes, he was still wearing a walking cast in the wrestling episode.

This show was RUINED. They had a nice blue collar sitcom with a divorced dad trying to move on with his life - it was relatable - but what is relatable about getting our own sports talk radio show?? Just because Jay Mohr fills in for Jim Rome in real life does not mean it makes for a good sitcom - especially when Season 1 worked. The writing isnt as good, Mohr seems bored and the new radio setting just doesnt work. Great interference network suits!

reply

Season 1 was funny and relatable but they got rid of the creator of the show so I guess Jay Mohr got his wish and now controls things. Why else would Gary now be getting a radio sports show?? Cuz Mohr fills in on Jim Rome?? How relatable that you can't Tom Brady on the phone? Really CBS? You had a blue collar guy dealing with divorce in Season 1 and now it's Colin Cowherd in a sitcom? They ruined it. Should have left it alone.

reply

Season 2 was definitely lacking. The Season 1 format and characters were finally coming together and then they changed everything. From a painter to a guy with his own radio show??? Come on! The new supporting characters are bland.

The "radio show" ratings should go down or a change in station format could cause Gary to lose his job and resort to painting again. Bring back Max Gail and the other supporting characters. Even Ed Begley Jr(who I usually find annoying). Lose the entire radio show cast and the brother.

I've got to say that I disagree. I thoroughly enjoy every episode of this show and looked forward to watching it every week. I'm hoping that it isn't cancelled but I wouldn't be surprised if it has been. I'd like to see more episodes focused on the kids. I think they carry the show when the storylines are weak. I really don't care all that much about the storylines though... it's a sitcom after all.

reply

I could accept Mitch and even that Gary's Dad was away, but the Radio-Job and the Loveinterest with Sasha... It just ruined the show.
You can still watch the 2. Season, but it's only half the fun of the first.
Guess I will never understand while they change a working, funny sitcom in so many ways.
