Jack White-Nice Hat! Guitar hack

This guy dresses, looks, acts and plays like a hack retard.
I knew nothing of him before seeing this film. They were asking each what they thought of the get together...and he says, 'I think there will be a fist fight.'
Really a fist fight? You take yourself way too seriously. And seriously you stink..try tuning your guitar genius.

PS nice make-up...you look like Johnny Depp's gay little cousin.
I actually had little respect for the Edge...but he amazed me by playing those tunes solo. I had always thought it was overdubbed.

There’s something about White that rubs one the wrong way. Perhaps it’s his completely unnecessary confrontational demeanor; 'I think there will be a fist fight.' I mean, what’s that about? Was that really necessary? Personally I’m in agreement with the poster who suggests White’s presence in the film was to pander to the 20 something fans because of his “reputation” as a “badass”. While there’s no denying he’s a skilled guitarist, I find his constant need to ‘prove something’ distracting; at times quite annoying—just play, man...we know you’re good—no need for a “fist-fight.”

That said, I’m also not a real big fan of his vocal style. I can not stand his high pitched caterwauling; I find it tedious and “tinny.”

I'm a massive White fan, but totally agree with that statement. He can come across as a totally pretentious dickhead - for years I didn't really like the White Stripes much because of that. Then I lived with a Stripes fan, gave them another listen.... and realised that behind all the pretence was a *beep* awesome pair of musicians. Then I got into Jack White's music more and realised he puts up this front so that the only thing out for display is his music and public persona. I think it's a protection device - no one really knows what the real Jack White is like, he hides behind this cocky, brash persona instead.

Could not agree more. ALL STYLE and ZERO SUBSTANCE. This was a movie about the opinion of three guitar 'LEGENDS'? Give me a break. Jack White is guitar hack that reminds me of all those high school non conformists that picked up an instrument just to get laid...

He was obviously joking that there would be a fist fight. White owes much of his sound to Zeppelin. The producers asked him what he thought would happen. He decided to give a better than "We'll discuss music very openly and earnestly and learn a bit from each other."

And really, are people not watching him play the guitar in this movie? He played the *beep* out of a guitar made of one string and a block of wood. Hack my ass.

As requested, hacked.

At least someone on here has some sense, GoldenHoratio.

in Jack's defense, i would have wanted to fistfight the Edge too

there's nothing "edgy" about U2's sound at all with maybe the exception of Mysterious Ways. it's all dull, unobtrusive, soft rock BS. not really ROCK whatsoever actually. it's whiney wussy music with no real riffs in it.

it basically goes right against the spirit of rock and roll

The Dead Weather's new album has more good songs on it than U2's entire back catalog

Jack is probably half Edge's age and already has 3 bands with a total of 10 albums, and every one of those cd's are good. U2 has only 12 albums starting from 1980, and they all suck REALLY bad

and not that i don't love zeppelin, but jimmy page hasn't really done much of anything since his drummer died. he's sang his old songs a few times since then but not many, collected some awards. maybe he needs beat up a little too, just for the hell of it

The "fist fight" remark rubbed me the wrong way as well, even though I didn't think he meant it literally. He should have a little more respect for the artists that preceded him, especially Page, who is nothing short of legendary. Perhaps his comment was born out of some insecurity, realizing he didn't have the pedigree the other two did.

Interesting thing about White, as compared with the others. He is the front man, the singer, while the other two are just the guitarists in popular bands (although Page was founder and producer for Zeppelin as well). It always amazes me in this day of American Idol, where it seems like ALL the attention is on the singer, to see guys who just played guitar make a name for themselves. Obviously they were doing something extraordinary to be noticed like that.

I'm no fan of Jack White, but he probably means something to his generation. I don't personally like his style, fashion or music-wise, but I'm willing to chalk some of that up to being older. Maybe if I were a younger guy I would appreciate what he does more. I wouldn't say he's unskilled though.

Hey idiot, the Edge is born in 1961 and Jack Black is born in 1975. I hardly consider 14 years difference as being HALF his age. How hard is that to look up?

Jack Black?

Ironic when he was obviously joking and it flew right over your clearly astute sense of humor..

..or maybe not, lol - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PSVP9LuRhU

Yeah clearly the fist fight thing was a joke. And I am a HUGE Zeppelin fan, enjoy U2, and love White Stripes too. Jack White is one of today's best rock musicians, why don't you actually go listen to his music before writing about stuff you don't know the first thing about.

-Are these the Nazis, Walter?
-No, Donny, these men are nihilists, theres nothing to be afraid of.

reply

The fist fight comment gets blown way out of proportion here. I think it was just a little joke, by which he meant to say that these three are vastly different guitar players with very different views on how to get a good sound out of the instrument. The Edge and White are obviously on two completely different sides of that argument. With page being somewhere inbetween.

how old are you?
Can't you distinguish a joke from an insult?
It was a joke dude.It was a *beep* joke.
