You can tell people missed the point when...

...they think the film should revolve around three shredders.

Why?

What would be the benefit of having three guitarists with effectively the same style of playing and the same mentality towards the instrument?

Surely it makes more sense to pick three guitarists from three generations with different approaches.

In effect all three guitarists grew up listening to blues inspired guitarists and in the case of Jack White, he grew up listening to Page and Edge while Edge grew up listening to Page. However they all branched off in different ways and so you have a guitarist like The Edge is often wrongly maligned for cheating with effects whereas even Page calls him a sonic architect and he's influenced the likes of Tom Morrello and Matt Bellamy.

Oh I see. Yes I agree. The Edge is a great guitarist, who cares if he uses effects.

He gets a hard time because he doesn't cram as many notes into a song as possible and uses delay to create a sound that gives U2 a unique sound that separates them from the more traditional rock sounds that went before them.

You can hear that influence in Coldplay, Muse, Radiohead, The Killers, Kings of Leon (bits) and Arcade Fire and not forgetting Snow Patrol and Glasvegas to name a few.

I think Edge takes a lot of hits because he's in U2 and it's hip to hate on U2. I also think people assume that because he spent a lot of money on his rig, he is, therefore, just like one of those idiots who has a lot of cash, no talent, and so buys the best gear and thinks he's a brilliant guitar player. That's not the case at all with the Edge. Yes, he's spent a lot of cash and, yes, he's got top-line gear, but he's buying it for a driven purpose and he's a better sound-smith because of that.

It was interesting how they all blended together and created a rad riff. It was literally music magic to my ears.
