OT: Hollowbody Electric Guitars

Question for any guitar experts out there: since most electric guitar pickups are magnetic and work by their relationship to the strings, how would an electric guitar with a (semi)hollow body have a different tone to a solid body?

So, if you had the same wood, the same nut, the same pickups, etc., in a Les Paul and in an ES-355, would their be an (appreciable) tone difference because of the hollow-ness of the ES-355? Or is it basically just the pickups?
