Explaining Why It's Bad

I just saw this last night as it was recently added to Netflix instant streaming. Afterward, and knowing I felt disappointed, I turned to IMDB to see the comments and users reviews. Sure enough, and like many recent films to disappoint me, the lead vote getting remarks were negative. Trouble is that people are struggling to express why this movie is a failure.

Instead of saying it wasn't funny, or a joke got old, think in terms of what is presented. Comedy sequels are very difficult to pull off. Many of the jokes in Anchorman 2 throw back to the original, hoping to build off your acceptance of Sex Panther and the brawl. This is a cheap tactic.

I've already forgotten what much of this movie was about. The story introduced new characters with a hint at what they were there for, then discarded them. After Jack Lime trips Ron, he goes AWOL until he decides to have a fight with Ron, who mind you totally lost his job again. At this point it's victory for Jack, but no we have to have a news crew skirmish because the first movie had one. A sensible plot for the movie would be Ron and co making the jump to cable news station GNN, where he battles Jack Lime. This is not what the movie is about, and the prolonged tangents make forgetting the story inevitable. We certainly didn't care for a second about Ron being a good father to this 10 year old we, as viewers, have no attachment toward. And where does any of this lead since the slate is wiped clean? It's possible that the most accurate synopsis for the film is: Brick falls in love.

There's not enough writing space on the entire web to explain thoroughly why this movie was terrible. It was an utter embarrassment for the cast and writers and an insult to the intelligence of the viewers. I don't get how the writers could know that the fan base loved the original enough to make a sequel and when they did they gave us this stupid, unfunny insult to the first. It was so bad that it actually made me like the original a little but less...that's hard to do. It was insulting to me that they thought this is what we call funny and want our movies to be like. I don't understand how the original was so good but they removed all that the audience enjoyed when making the sequel. I'm not 7 years old, dick and fart shock humor with no story or integrity is not funny to adults and it's MILES apart from what made the original great. I'm completely disgusted San Diego
