Bailey singing 'Legally Blonde' July 30th, 2008

This isn't my recording, or the person who posted it. But thought you would be interested in hearing her sing something other than "So Much Better."

Wow. That's like a 100% improvment than how she sang it on the show. That number was the only number when I thought she might not be the best Elle because I thought she wasn't sincere with her emotions when she sang it on the show. That one I just heard is like a night and day difference. I'm proud of Bailey! lol

She does seem to have improved, but she definitely needs work on some of her line delivery... it seemed a bit rushed. (My friend who saw the show didn't like her at all, though - said it felt like a community theater actress being shoved into a Broadway show. Harsh, but I understand his sentiment.)

She has a very low singing voice - didn't they lower some notes just for her in the score? This does make me worried about something Bailey said in an interview (I can't find the link, does anyone have it?) where she said she'd love to play Glinda in Wicked. Um. Glinda is a *soprano* role -- yes, there have been a few altos who've played her (Kendra Kassebaum, who is on the role on Broadway at the moment, who can hit all the notes required except for one at the end of a song and has an overall strong voice otherwise) but if Bailey can't even hit the 'high' notes in Legally Blonde, how does she expect to have the voice and stamina for Glinda's singing? That role has strained the voices of some of the strongest female singers in the biz... Bailey can barely handle this show, it seems.

Wow sorry that got rambly, I just read about Bailey expressing interest in Glinda and it sent me reeling. I hope the Wicked casting directors are smarter than that.

I did think initially that So Much Better was lowered, but I checked the high note at the end and it's the same as LBB's. So that song at least hasn't been lowered. But I don't know about the other stuff. There is a video of Bailey as Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvnBF_E69jA) where she hits a high D at the end. So after seeing that, I don't doubt Bailey's ability to sing the role. I am still iffy about her portrayal of Glinda, though - from what she said when she mentioned she'd love to play Glinda, it seems she just sees Glinda as another bubbly blonde.

Yes, Gertrude is definitely a soprano part. But, that's a horrible performance....those bird girls in the background in the beginning are bad bad bad. And that's one of my favorite musicals...

Yea, the tempo needed to be sped up soooo much. And I honestly wasn't paying too much attention to the bird girls, I was just curious as to how Bailey sounded, lol.
