This Movie BURIES 'HATCHET'

I cant believe all of the haters on here who were "disappointed". WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU EXPECTING??

Its a non campy throwback slasher film and in that respect it RULES.

Cool Killer? CHECK. Chrome Skull wipes the floor with that dufus-y obviously rubber monster in Hatchet! I LOVED! that we don't get some expected stupid back-story! He's a sick pervert..WE GET IT!!!!!!!!

Good Kills? CHECK!!!!!!! The best deaths in ANY INDEPENDENT SLASHER FILM EVER. Period. NO debate.

Cool Story? YES!!! Its all in there folks. In fact I've watched it 5 times and the story is there and soooo good. Its not even about the killer, its about the girl who desperately wants to know who she is. Something we can all relate to. HOW MAY of you picked up on the fact that Tucker (Kevin Gage) knew ALL Along her back story as he carried that (Missing) poster printed from Stephen's house?

The revelation at the end is a great twist yet bittersweet. The actress playing the girl has a tough job with her head injury dialoge and delivers it to perfection.

BEST slasher film in the last decade PERIOD.

Just don't expect it to start five kids in the woods! Laid takes on a smarter and more clever set up. Looking forward to more Chrome Skull Madness.

I agree for the most part of your post. I found the story a little weak and kind of hard to follow, but I liked it. I still preferred Hatchet though.

It was an entertaining movie. the story did have some holes but i can deal with that as long as the film has a good flow and this one did. not a masterpiece but i have seen much much worse.

well, i dont think u can really compare the too of them, hatchet was just pure comedy,I coundnt stop laughing. it had dope kills, plenty of gore, and the acting was good for a "COMEDY HORROR FLICK".

L2R!! was some str8 up, cold getting in DAT ASS S--T!!!

Every kill was detail to the fullest and had "MAD GORE"
Chrome Skull didnt come to play!
This movie had that "final destination" impact too it
(ur like WTF, not that goonie s--t, but the sudden impact s--t)

dont get me wrong, hatchet had MAD GORE and DOPE KILLS too.
( i dont think we can forget about home-chick with the sand paddle to the mouth "crawling around looking all f--k up and s--t" and then getting slam down on the shovel stick).

However, these too characters are different in style, vick uses his hands to kill people brutally "i love hands-on-kills"

CS is intellent, and is killing with a (ill f--k up) blade "which clearely he has perfected"

one is Jason with out the mask, and the other is JACK THE F--KING RIPPER!!!

BTW,i didnt take this movie to deep and i only seen it once, but now that you said that about tucker knowing her pass, Cindy(Lena Headey), was saying "she probley some dumb prostute"

ahhhh man! i like both of these movies, so i cant say that this buries the Hatchet

Im a slasher fan when i comes to horror flicks, therefore Hatchet makes me laugh! L2R makes me say "OHHHH DAM! THAT S--T WAS DOPE"

They are both classics to me

there the best of two different types of slasher flicks.

throw F13TH in it(2009) u got popularity character with no "Gore" and no "Dope Kills" whack actors, and story plot that doesnt follow the series

Your post should be this movie buries "Friday the 13th" (2009) instead of Hatchet.

A man Aint S--t without fire

Hatchet was abolute grbage. I can't believe that someone thought to compare the two in the first place.

Hatchet was not funny in the slightest, had totally cheap, crappy make-up FX and was also extraordinarily annoying/retarded.

I find that I can enjoy both on their own merits, without having to compare the two. Really, they're different types of movie, and whether one enjoys either is a matter of what one wants from a movie in this genre. Not fair to blame an apple for not being an orange, right?

Although I liked this movie, Hatchet is much better.

Bill Murray said it best in "Scrooged." "...Did that suck!"

Sorry kids, but "Hatchet" was outstanding. The fx were superior to this in that the artists didn't give the viewer a chance to decide if the fx were fake. There were at least 4 scenes in "Laid" that allowed the viewer to return to reality and think, "you know, that could have been a bit more realistic." Before anyone gets offended, the movie was definitely entertaining. The death scenes were novel and horrifically gory, and the overall mood was nothing less than hopeless. But to say that it was an incredible horror film is downright blasphemous to the genre. Slow paced, vague plot, simple characters, a villain with no motive AT ALL, and the acting was less than mediocre, at best. If one must watch this, do it out of an unexpectant curiosity, not because the search for the next great slasher film led one there.

If a comparison must be drawn(and it shouldn't), "Hatchet" is superior to "laid" simply because it has a classic contemporary backstory that fans of the subgenre will appreciate and embrace. "Laid" is fun(when not lulling) and offers a different, newer approach that is more suitable for "injuries-to-the-head-and-neck" fiends that don't mind waiting between drawn out exchanges between uninteresting characters for the next death, and is not disenchanted with a lack of interest displayed by the characters for their own fates.

Again, this is not to say the movie was without its merits, but let's keep the comparisons on the same level. It's a cool movie. It's not a great movie. Enjoy. I did.

I liked Laid to Rest better.

Both Hatchet and Laid to Rest were terrible - aside from some unique kills, neither movie makes any sense.

Both ambitious efforts but both also suffer from one fatal flaw - poor writing, probably the one thing that a low budget horror producer should be able to afford.
