Shaky Cam is Infantile

Why is it that every writer/director with a half-assed horror story thinks he can manufacture tension with the cliché handheld shaky camera effect? Nothing screams amateur like shaky cam. Newsflash for newbie directors: if your character/setting/plot do not create enough tension on their own, no amount of shake will save it.
