Who has seen the movie? Is it more than 50% in English? The trailer looks like the whole film is in English and it stars Brenda Blethyn, but Rachid Bouchareb has been nominated for two Foreign Film Oscars in the past and I'm wondering if this could compete as well.
shareI saw this a month or so ago on German television (ARTE). The film is mainly in English (I'd say about 55-60% off hand) with the conversations between Brenda Blethyn's character and Sotigui Kouyaté's character taking place in French. There's also some Arabic. And the film had German subtitles in the version I saw ;-)

Dzong. I have seen it. Strangely it was shown here (france, although I British) on TV about 2 months ago on ARTE a Franco-German station.
It is mostly in English, and is a wonderful film.

I saw this last night in the London film festival. It's a French production actually - until the title rolled on screen I thought I might have stepped into the wrong cinema!
Actually, Algeria sent it as their nominated film, but it JUST fell short of the amount of non-English dialogue that is permitted. In fact, had there been ONE MORE SCENE in a language other than English it may have qualified. But this was the first casualty and first disqualification. A shame. But understandable and, I hasten to add, a lesson to anyone else writing a part foreign part English script and hoping to send it in to the Oscars.
However, this does not mean that the film will be ineligible in other categories. Who knows. We'll have to wait and see.

I think you mis-read the previous post. I believe he was saying that it would have qualified as a foreign film if it had a little more NON-English dialogue.
