why was he an addict?

He was not an outsider, he had a great family, he had the looks, a bright future, just everything... So why??

@ Nina

I came here looking for answers to this exact question. Nic was an ingrate and a degenerate. His dad loved him and so did his mother. He had nice things. He was fairly good-looking.

I couldn't figure out what the dude's problem was?

I give this movie 6 stars for that reason...No proper character development.

reply

Yes, I mean there is a difference between smoking Joints sometimes and to take meths all the time.
How could get a person like Nick even get in contact with that?

reply

I've known people like that in real life. Certain personalities just get an immense sense of ennui from being pampered in the good and comfortable life, and they have to go and sabotage it.

reply

Some people get addicted to drugs because they like drugs, not because there's something horribly wrong with their lives.

reply

Exactly Otter. Also I thought the movie explained that he just really likes the way it makes him feel.

Also why not explaining this being a reason, he lived in a very rural area...not much to do. A lot of people who live in rural areas try drugs out of boredom and get addicted.

reply

I second that. Opiates in particular will make you physically addicted, no need for any lingering issues or trauma.

reply

I know kids that come from great families and join gangs, go figure.

reply

He was bored and had it too easy.
