Sort of a very depressing movie and not much Julia Stiles-ness

Okay so, I decided to give this film a chance because I read that Julia Stiles was part of the cast but little did I know she'd appear only about twice and how crappy it could make me feel.

Spoilers:

Little Hopkins was always so eager on meeting her mother (played by chubby cheeks Julia Stiles) and living with her but sadly she didn't care one bit for her and the only reason she even travelled was due to the grandmother paying her. Man, that's some quality parenting to only come collect $$$ and not give a toss about her own child.

Well, that's just one of the parts so as such, I won't spoil anything else.

I wouldn't say the movie is depressing. It ended on a very happy note. Yes, Gilly's mom sucked. She was selfish and heartless. And it was difficult watching Gilly's whole world crash after discovering her mother's true intentions for coming to see her. But Gilly gained a completely new family. Like Gilly told her little friend Agnes, she has a brother, mother and an uncle! And now a grandmother.

Do not agree with gaining a new family if it means you basically leave your old one. She was happy with her life apart from missing her mother. Now she lives with her new grandmother and hardly sees her old family and she may go to an expensive school
now but how long before she outgrows her old life.
