I almost got excited...

... when I saw HP Lovecraft and Jeffrey Combs listed... I thought, oh hey, this could be interesting. Then I saw who's directing it and got really worried.

reply

Don't be worried. More importantly, look at who is producing.

If you want my thoughts on the film or an idea of how its going, read here:

Um, for some reason that link didn't take me to the right place, but then again I am a telentless hack and could probably find a way to crash something as simple as a link. However with a little searching I found you and your "magical" blog. I must say you really seem to have a grasp on Lovecraft, and it's good to see you did your research. Also, I missed the fact that you are basing this on The Dunwich Horror, that'll be good times. Also, I'm with you as far as screw cgi dang lazy filmmakers. That's why a lot of films from 20 years ago still freak me out more than anything made today because they still look more real than cgi. Give me The Thing or Aliens any 'ol day...

I look forward to seeing a decent Lovecraft translation.

You got quite the history of bad movies there pal.

However, you've got Jeffrey Combs. It can't fail.

Give the guy a break. Take a look at Ingmar Bergman's first few films if you can find them: Crisis, Port of Call, High Tension. They SUCK. So did Cronenberg and Terry Gilliam's first features, yet they kept at it and now, alll three will now go down among the greatest filmmakers ever.

It's pretty clear Gilliam and Cronenberg have talent though.

dont ever compare leigh scott to ingmar bergman ever again or i will hunt you down and kill you. Plus those movies arent anywhere close to being the *beep* that transmorphers is. Leigh scott has no talent whatsoever anyone can do what he does and do it better.

Meh....

What's this "can" nonsense? Why don't you just show me one of your films? That would prove it hands down...

Still waiting...

I was actually looking forward to this film. I mean no offence Leigh but you havnt ever really made a film I can call "good". But still I was very excited for this film. Im not gunna lie. My excitement died after seeing the trailer. Still i will not judge till I see the film.

Don't compare Scott with Gilliam, Cronenberg and especially Bergman. Bergman's first films may not be his best but they are good enough to get reasonable ratings from IMDB and there is artistic merit in all of his films. Maybe you prefer Scott's films to Bergman's films but to compare an Asylum director to an artist like Bergman is an insult to the medium of film. I like to cut Leigh Scott some slack but compared to Bergman he is a mere speck or less than that. And many people have a problem with the Scott films that are not his first ones.

It is like comparing Michael Bey to Kobayashi Masaki; beyond ridiculous, beyond reason.

Exactly! I'm willing to volunteer for that jury as well, as would many others here I'm sure.

When I see this film I will judge it on its own merits, not on what some anonymous internet troll says about the director's previous efforts.

Leigh, do you see any other "professional" directors issuing challenges to anonymous internet people on IMDB? Seriously, this is just ridiculous chest beating. Preserve some of your dignity, man.

reply

If you have not already seen it, Combs was also in Necronomicon (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107664/reference).
