How underrated can you get

I just saw this!! By no means do I think this movie is perfect but I have to say it was truly enjoyable.

* The maim scenes were incredibly well shot and timed. Why more movies cant aspire to this level of perfection is beyond me

* Though the audio was horrid (defined as my having to turn on subtitles more than 4 times) but the movie content made up for it.

* I had trouble believing Mel's bostonian twang. Just seemed like he was doing an accent.

* Darius Jedburgh (Winstone(s) character seemed under-utilized. The final killing scene seemed over the top as well. I was sort of expecting a public ousting rather than an execution

* Would have liked to see a little more detective work. Craven went from not knowing s**t to figuring everyones agendas out in a matter of days ALL BY HIMSELF. Maybe they just breed Bostons finest that way but I thought is was a little too rushed

* Killing off the hero is always a risky gamble. And I know they were trying to portray craven's throes of agony at losing his daughter but the hallucinations detracted from his Super Cop stature i thought.

Lastly can someone tell me why his Captain turned on him (and why he was needed.... surely not to locate him again)

Overall it was enjoyable. Definately worth the redbox rent

Agree with most of your points. My take:

Routine ‘cop seeks revenge’ Film made more palatable and entertaining given to Mel Gibson’s smoldering performance as police detective Thomas Craven. Nothing will stop him from trying to bring down the corporate toffs who snuffed his much loved young girl.

The script’s shortcomings, potholes, and implausibility, are mostly compensated by Martin Campbell crackerjack directing. The Film delivers a level of satisfaction in the ploddingly, steadfastly pursuing of justice by Gibson's character.

Danny Huston as the meanest wretch and Ray Winston in his shadow-like acting role, give a fairly strong performance.

Highly Watchable if Gibson is on your radar.

It's my #1 film of 2010. it's definitely underrated at it's current 6.6/10 for the average as it should be AT LEAST low 7's minimum for the average.

1.Edge of Darkness (9/10)
2.Kick-Ass (8/10)

Nice analysis! I rated it an 8 for lack of ability to give it a 7.5 or so since it seemed a bit underrated. And yes the audio was really bad from an engineering standpoint and also because that one actor mumbled so much (and quietly). Definitely a good flick for the most part.
