Start of a trend.

There recently was a series of TV films based on the tragic private lives of top comics eg Frankie Howerd and Steptoe and Son. Could this be the start of a trend for dramas based on legendary football figures. George Best has already been covered but could it be THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MALCOLM ALLISON or the GLORY OF BOBBY MOORE?

It would have to be something as dramatic as those awful thirty or so days. although I'm sure Paul Gasgoine's life is ripe for the Morgan treatment. how about: Raging Red Bull?

reply

I mention Malcolm Allison because his story has a classic rise and fall - and plenty of sex - especially with Fional Richmond and plenty of bunny girls.

Don't be too surprised if they make a film of Colin Schindlers new book " The Worst Of Friends" about Allison and Joe Mercer.
God will forgive them, He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven. I can't live with that.

Best subject would be Gazza, for obvious reasons.

Interesting, I never knew that.
Hard to imagine how one can be a Maoist in an industrial country such as Germany mind.
I am off to Google more.

The thing is ... I don't think the career of one footballer alone is enough to tell an interesting story. There has to be another element, giving a bit of a historical sweep.

What about "Inside the mind of Alf Ramsey" ?

Or "The Charlton Brothers" ? (It might be tactful to wait until they've both passed away).

Another good soccer story :

Dynamo Moscow and how Beria of the KGB manipulated them and their games, and the treatment of Nikolai Starostin who played for rival Spartak. There has to be a good movie in this story somewhere.

I think a true portrayal of Brian Cloughs career would make an interesting story, and I also think Gazza would have a good story to tell.

Or the story of the french non league side who got all the way to the French FA Cup Final a few years ago, Calais I think it was
