Visually beautiful, some good acting, but what a silly plot!

I liked the cinematography, the sets & clothes (beautiful!), the directing (+ emphasizing emotions over spoken lines), to see how Italian haute bourgeoisie lives today (very interesting :) , Tilda's acting (superb actress!), but I hated the plot - it totally ruined the movie for me. I didn't believe the chemistry between Emma and Antonio for one second (I was actually sure that Antonio and Edo were lovers!) and I thought that Emma's running to Antonio after Edo's death was just ridiculous: a loving mother would have grieved more than a night instead of running like crazy to her lover!!!

I enjoyed the movie for the first part, and when Betta is shown to be a lesbian and Antonio is introduced to the audience I thought that the story was going to be about the rich & conservative family coming to terms with the homosexuality of the two offsprings (who were then obviously not going to pass the Recchi name & fortune to a future generation), but Emma's affair with Antonio was just a bad script idea. Talking about jumping the shark ...

I ended up giving this movie a 3 out of 10.
