hitchcock reference
Gorgeous movie. Tilda's hair in the sanremo segment, and the close up of it is blatantly a homage to Hitchcock's Vertigo. The exact hairstyle is used as a plot device in his film and focused on with similar urgency as it is within I Am Love. John Adam's flawless musical repertoire helps to add to the significance, as do similar musical tactics used in Vertigo add cinematic gravitas. Can anyone find other hitchcock references in this gem or is this the filmmaker's only "shout-out" to a legendary director who was equally capable (okay, more capable) of building tension and suspense?
Also interested in thoughts on the food=sex theme. I met a very smart and lovely Italian woman once who disdained this movie because of "tired cliches" claiming that everyone thinks the Italians equate food with sex. I thought the comparison was sublime in this movie, but she very much disagreed.
Thoughts??
