Why is the film called 'I Am Love'?

i thought the story would be much more than what it is to be called that, so can someone define exactly why the story deserves such an omni title? OK, she loves the guy, but is it any more than how we would love someone?

so?

I wonder the same thing.

Here are a couple of others discussing the title.

Because of Antonio. He is Love and with his entrance (sorry for my english) in Emma's Life is saying "I'm love". He doesn't belong to her "class/status", is the "outsider", and inside the villa which freezes and prevents the sentiments and the "movements" of the heart, he enter impetuously in her life.
The one who is love, the one who brings with him the value of nature, the flame and the ingredients to get back and recover the lost emotions and their true nature.

Because it's pretentious.

I have a huge rodent problem.

The title comes from a line in the aria "La mamma morta," which we hear as Emma & Tancredi are watching TV in bed:

Voce piena d'armonia e dice
Vivi ancora! Io son la vita!
Ne' miei occhi è il tuo cielo!
Tu non sei sola!
Le lacrime tue io le raccolgo!
Io sto sul tuo cammino e ti sorreggo!
Sorridi e spera! Io son l'amore!
Tutto intorno è sangue e fango?
Io son divino! Io son l'oblio!
Io sono il dio che sovra il mondo
scendo da l'empireo, fa della terra
un ciel! Ah!
Io son l'amore, io son l'amor, l'amor.

Wikipedia's translation:

A voice full of harmony says,
"You must live, I am life itself!
Your heaven is in my eyes!
You are not alone.
I shall collect all your tears
I will walk with you and support you!
Smile and hope! I am Love!
Are you surrounded by blood and mire?
I am Divine! I am Oblivion!
I am the God who saves the World
I descend from Heaven and make this Earth
A paradise! Ah!
I am love, love, love."

Hey mattlord,

Thanks, man. That is awesome! I'll find out what La mamma morta is about (other than the obvious, of course). That's terrific. I'm sorry I missed that one! :)

You're right. Emma & Tancredi are watching Philadelphia on TV. Tom Hanks translates the aria in this scene too. It's a Maria Callas version.

Ah, thank you. I was wondering why Denzel Washington suddenly popped up in an Opera.

I am love. Emma feels me for someone outside her family, outside her marriage. And I am not approved of.

I am love. Betta feels me for someone outside social norms. And I am not approved of.

I am love. Edo feels me for someone who beat him in a race - which put his family to shame. And that is not approved of.

I am love and I transcend everything, I am above all.

(how cheesy was that?)

A better question is.........why was this film even made? It's pretentious, boring, long, pointless and overwrought. Otherwise the cinematography was interesting for about 20 minutes!?

Thank you for saying that; my thoughts exactly. I rented it this last weekend, and thought it played like bad SNL sketch; an Italian soap-opera that took itself very seriously, with an improbably bad storyline, and wooden, and/or, in Tilda Swinton's case (and I'm a fan of hers)intensely overwrought performances. The scene, if you are familiar, post-funeral, when she admits to her husband of her "love" and infidelity with Edouardo, and he dramatically tells her in Italian, "Tomorrow, you leave!", had me laughing. Then, the day afterwards, at home, she runs like an hysterical banshee through the house, and feverishly has the housekeeper help her pack before making her final escape to her lover - awaiting her in a secluded cave, no less. Nevermind that she's just lost her son. Oh brother! Che tripa! So glad I didn't go to see it in the movies and listen to all the hype. To be avoided at all costs!

I´m Love is the literal traslation for Io sono l´amore.
The LOVE suddendy appears and say "I´M HERE"

In Argentina the comercial name was EL AMANTE- The lover... for me a bit stupid name.
