so Edoardo was in love with Antonio?

i'm still thinkin about that,his wife was like painted in the hospital scenes, everybody seem to ignore her and that's kinda what the director showed about them, they were not into each other,WAS HE JELOUS ABOUT Antonio and his mother? or was he just angry? i love the camera work in this movie, it's a plus. the locations are so good.

I hope I don't come across as patronizing, but I have read a number of your posts regarding this movie and I must say, I hope that your profession is writing! Your posts are some of the most intellectual and expressive thoughts I have ever read. Coming across your interpretations and ideas have been nothing short of enlightening and engaging. Bravo and thank you!

From silentsebastian;

"WAS HE JELOUS ABOUT Antonio and his mother?"

Yes. But why? From my POV Edo and his mother had a special bond. He is the only one in the family who spoke Russian with her which supports this idea.

So, what is the significance of the fish soup? To me Edo is sheltered and has a childlike view of the world. We see it in his attitudes with business and his "project" of helping Antonio. His room (where Emma sleeps after his death) would fit a 12 year old rather than an adult. And part of his childlike nature is Edo's relationship with his mom. The soup is HIS SOUP! It is their secret to be shared with no one else.

So, in the pool scene Edo is having a tantrum like a child and Emma is trying to reason with him as if he were a child. It may be that Edo is seeing too much reality as co-director of the family business. He can't control things and now his secret bond with his mom is being shared with Antonio. His mom also has sexual desires of her own. He is having to grow up and he can't handle it.

it's just in my humble opinion - imho -

Agreed.

Edo was a naïve and spoiled man.

Edo is crazy about Antonio, but he's not homosexual, in my opinion.

Edo was incredibly jealous when he figured out the affair - mostly over his mother, but all together because the two most important people in his life, his mother and Edo, had not been there when he came home distraught from England about the family business. First he looked for his mother, then Antonio, finally he found at least his sister. Most of all, he was jealous about his mother, who, by not being there when he looked for her, had abandoned her primary identity as his mother to find herself as a woman, in the process sharing even their special soup.

And in the end, he must have found Eva, who told him she was pregnant. This cheered him up, we know, as he is said to be in better spirits by the evening of the fateful dinner party. This is what he "was going to tell" his mother, mentioned during the fateful scene.
