Why I Say Thumbs Up

The only reason I would recommend this movie is because, unlike so many others, it does not glamorize adultery. Someone else mentioned Garp's treatment of that subject and I agree. Too often affairs are presented as good, lovely, expanding, etc. No, that's not what most of them are like.

Who got hurt the most by the affair? Yes it was Emma but not becasue she was a woman but because the was MARRIED and Antonio was not. She lost her son, her marriage, her family and probably her wealth. Pretty expensive sack time.

Antonio lost his homosexual lover, any standing he had, and probably his dream to open a restaurant at the world's worst location. Although that pales compared to Emma's loss, it was pretty much all Antonio had.

Emma's husband, her other children, Edwardo's squeeze and the unborn child also lost.

Aside from that and overall, they could have cut 60 minutes from the running time and still made whatever statement they had to make. It was visibly stunning but I can leaf through many a magazine if that is what I am interested in.

I give it a thumbs up because it romanticizes adultery. It shows no matter how rich you are, no matter how perfect your life seems, no matter who hates you for it, love is always more important than status. Her affair with Antonio literally killed her son and she still goes to him anyway.

She is love, and love is more important than life, death, or children. We only live on this earth once and she decided to negate everything she knew for it. One of the bravest characters in the history of cinema.

This movie doesn't indict her for her affair, if anything it glorifies it (thankfully). I wish this movie was three hours longer honestly, wishing for an hour to be cut is sacrelogious in my opinion.

I agree completely. I almost fell asleep several times. Visually beautiful and Tilda Swinton aside, for me it kind of dragged.
