...not attending Edo's funeral. I've read a few comments mixed into other threads, but I wanted to start this one all on its own to see what people thought about that. Personally, it was the most shocking aspect of the entire film for me, especially since Emma and Antonio ended up in the cave together at the end of the film.

Three years too late to really start a conversation, but I want to add that I was also confused by Antonio. I was disappointed that he didn't make an appearance at the end, reacting to the death of Edo in any way.
I got the impression Emma did see Antonio at the funeral...there's a scene when she looks startled and starts walking towards the camera. Since Antonio is such a non-entity to everyone in the family besides Emma and Edo, it wouldn't be surprising that neither the camera nor any of the other characters talked to him had he shown up.
Anyway, Antonio is such a cipher. A more working-class/down-to-earth guy who is the perfect embodiment of passion hidden behind a quiet, subservient demeanor. Who is he? Does he really love Emma? And why? What will he do without Edo and Edo's support of his restaurant -- after all, Antonio couldn't even convince his father to give him land for his dream restaurant, Edo had to charm the father.
