Plot Holes / Doesn't Make Sense

1. What happened with the subplot b/t Ashley- played by Zoe KravitZ - and Ryan? It was just strange how she lied about having a dead sister (why?!), he got really pissed, and we never heard from her again. WTF?

2. You can't get me to believe that after you have sex ONE time and get pregnant and your boyfriend is dead and you have absolutely nobody to turn to except his parents, and his mother hates you, a teenage girl can have this much self-confidence. I'm just saying.

I totally agree with you about point #2.

1. He was done with her after the lie was discovered. He confided in her while thinking she had been through a very similar experience. He had her admit she didn't know what it was like and then he left. I don't know why writers would have written her character beyond that.

2. It is entirely possible to have nowhere else to go. Her mom had just entered rehab and she probably knew she wouldn't have the money to have proper medical care. Plus, I think she wanted to be close to Bennett via his family, no matter how dysfunctional they were.

If you're not responding to me, "reply" to the post you're responding to. kthanks.

1) I guess it's rare but some people do pretend to have gone through trauma in order to get close to the traumatised. In the aftermath of the New York bombings there emerged a woman who pretended to have lost her boyfriend in 9/11. But yeah, I think the odds are just too unlikely for it to sit comfortably in a 90 minute film.

2) I just couldn't believe bereaved parents would take in a complete stranger.

I just couldn't believe bereaved parents would take in a complete stranger.

I can see grieving people just going along with a situation because there's no space for them to try to make sense of it. What I couldn't believe is anyone who would turn away a daughter-in-law who is pregnant with your first grandchild of the beloved son you will never get to see again. Could anyone really do something like that??

You really don't know the meaning of "plot hole", do you?

reply

Lol! Agreed. An alarming amount of people don't know what plot hole actually means.

But I do agree with OP that it is hard to believe that a young girl who is so alone in the world and who has such a crappy mother should be so 'together' and confident.

Ps truly cheesy happy family ending.
