I LOVED LOVED This movie

I don't know why so many people are saying they don't like it, everyone I know loves it, I have watched it many times and love it just the same!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Maybe one day I will revisit this movie and change my opinion. But as of now, I do not like it AT ALL. I didn't crack a smile once during the whole thing. This is easily Mike Judge's worst movie. After watching this, I really longed for another viewing of Idiocracy (which was a mediocre flick) to remove the bad taste from my mouth.

reply

Both Idiocracy and Extract are great.

You need to watch them both multple times.

If you liked Office Space, there is no doubt in my mind that you would like Extract just as much. Just trust me on this one. I'm not here to prove a point, I just think if you gave it (and Idiocracy) multiple viewings, that you would really love both films.

reply

I really don't understand how you think Idiocracy was a mediocre film. There were tons of funny parts and the whole thing was brilliant. I really don't even know what you expect from Mike Judge movies. Maybe you're a fan of King Of The Hill. If you liked Office Space, I don't understand how you can not like that one either.

reply

I don't get it either. They're just different types of excellent. I'm a fan of "Idiocracy," "King of the Hill," "Office Space," "Beavis and Butt-head," and this film. Mike Judge is a brilliant writer and director with a unique take on pop culture and Americana. This film was extremely clever, hilarious at times and touching at others. 9/10 stars.

Agree.

reply

Agree, I didn't like this movie too!!! Such a waste of time!

reply

just watched it for the third time, and i must agree... this movie is hilarious, ben afleck owns his role and everyone else is great... don't understand so many nay sayers when it first came out

reply

I didn't love the film, but I really enjoyed it. This film has achieved what many films can't achieve with huge budgets: decent writing, likable characters, and it was just pleasant all-around without the need for grand gestures. I didn't expect much from the reviews, but I came away feeling better having seen it.

reply

I was already a big Office Space and King of the Hill fan, and now I love Extract just as much!

Just wanted to stop by and say I really liked Extract also. I was surprised at how good it was after hearing so many negatives.

It's on Comedy Central right now and it just made my day! Definitely in my top 5-10 favorite movies. I really have to buy this for my collection.

reply

I accidentally kept it too long when I got it from RedBox. Then I said, what the hell- I'll just buy it and keep it! I've watched it several times since.

Judge makes movies for smart people.

As for Idiocracy, I enjoyed it but not nearly as much as OS or Extract. I'm quite able to put my pet peeves on hold, but in Idiocracy I couldn't quite grasp that this idiot society is still able to develop/maintain all kinds of technology, like they were able to pinpoint the location of "Not Sure" minutes after escaping from prison.

Loved it as well. It has that quiet perfection of King of the Hill and less of the craziness of Office Space or Idiocracy or Beavis and Butt-Head.

reply

I guess the comedy is subtle, but not as subtle as I was expecting. It's a decent movie.

I just caught it on netflix (UK) having heard NOTHING about it. I thought it was hilarious and right up there with Office Space. That bong scene had me in stitches...even thinking about it now.

"This is my number!"

In my opinion Mike Judge's best offering is "Office Space" but this was hilarious as well! :)

I love all his films. I hope he reads the nice comments and wants to make more films and is allowed to make more films. Came here after seeing him talking on the United States of Television documentary. I think this movie was the most perfect outing of Jason Bateman's nice normal witty guy character that's just a bit more elegantly drawn than most characters like this, the same character you'll see him do in a slightly less subtly written movie like Horrible Bosses (which is really funny too) - where you know that if he's in the movie you can relax, no one will do anything dreadful on his watch. But it's in the writing, and in the details, here.

ha ha :) ^ im the same - just watched it on Netflix UK and I've got to say that I loved this film. Perfect cast and a funny sweet little story. I didnt even realise it was a Mike Judge film (I know....duh) till Jim showed up with that voice of his lol

I am in the same boat -- I had NEVER heard of this film until it showed up in a recommendation on IMDB. Not sure why -- with Jason Bateman, Kristin Wiig, Kunis and Affleck -- as well as it being a Judge movie, I don't understand why there wasn't more advertising for this film. Maybe there was, and I was just living under a rock? No idea. That said, I'm loving this movie. It's hilarious. It's one I can see watching again in a few months. And it makes me want to watch Idiocracy again. I'm also going to check out Judge's page to see if I've missed any of his films.

Good to see other people discovering this around the same general timeframe as me. Given that you loved this movie, any other similar movies (or even tv shows with a similar feel to this, Office Space or Idiocracy) that you would recommend?

Thanks :)
