Writer Let The Actors Down

I loved this right up until the final episode.

The actors were brilliant - especially Rachael Stirling, but the ending was completely rushed.

I felt as though Allison planned to give the series five episodes but just as he's about to finish writing the 4th episode, the powers-that-be told him there can only be 4 episodes, so he scribbles what he can into two minutes' footage.

We don't find out what happens to either of the lead characters. We didn't hear why Veronica lost touch with her parents. He already laid the groundwork for a brilliant ending - then totally ignored it!

He could have made Fiona end up with EITHER character (depending on what was most important to her - the body or the mind!)

He could have made either character go into investigative journalism. I liked how the crooks were sorted out and arrested, but having only Danny's friend Pete know about the secret was lame.

Personally, I think Jay, Fiona and Siobhan should have gone with Pete in the same car and have everything explained on the way.

If there had been 5 episodes, it could have been possible to convince the boyfriend, best friend and Fiona the same way that Pete had been convinced, by answering lots of confidential questions. Then everyone would have felt guilty for not believing them and would have finally understood their behaviour.

Even if without such a 'tidy' ending, the series could still have answered a lot more questions and explained what happened to the main characters.

I was furious because the ending voided the whole series.

And made the difference of whether I buy the DVD or not. ie: NOT.

I just watched this last night and I have to agree that I felt that the ending felt a bit rushed. There needed to be more dialouge after the transfer back just to tie up the loose ends like Fiona, V's relationship with her parents.

There needn't have even been a whole episode to explain this, it could have been done very easily using a montage sequence at the end of the episode. As it was, with the two main characters walking off into the night, I felt there was a lot left to be explained.

Totally agree, 5 episodes would've been nice. I didn't like the lack of communication at the end. I would've liked to see whether Danny tried to convince Fiona or something, because really the whole show I felt was Danny's story.

Still enjoyed it though.

Worthwhile series but the ending just wasn't good enough. It just wasn't good enough.

I think this was left open ended for a reason. Nothing was resolved, we never really saw Veronica revive in herself (the version I saw only cut to Danny and his friend walking off into the night, did Veronica revive??). I have a pet theory that nothing changed when the lightning struck, it only killed Danny who was still in Veronica's body. Meanwhile Veronica in Danny's body has a clean slate and can continue with her life without a look back...well maybe she will try to forge a new relationship with her parents through Danny. That's the stock ending I remember of the scifi stories I used to read as a kid.

Veronica did revive.

I liked the open ending...all the answers being demanded by the first few posters in this thread are left to our own interpretations, which imo was the best way to end it.

I don't share your interpretation tenonceb4, but it is certainly possible.

My own view is that the transfer was not 100% ie. there was a little bit of Danny left in Veronica and a little of Veronica left in Danny and they are both the better for it. Danny will stop wasting his life in a dead end job and at the pub and Veronica realises how shallow and vacuous her life is and can't live it anymore.

I don't share the OP's opinion that "Writer Let The Actors Down"...the writer just didn't spoon-feed us all the answers. A great little mini-series that leaves you with more questions to ponder after it finishes...I really enjoyed it.
