Mulholland Drive

Someone else mentioned that this film is at times a bit reminiscent of Almodovar. I have to agree... It especially brings to mind All About My Mother, which has more elements of drama. Lucrecia Martel's The Holy Girl and La Ciénaga (The Swamp) (one of my all-time favorite films) felt more confident and 100% original.

In some ways, The Headless Woman also reminds me a bit of Mulholland Drive, even if the similarities are few. Both stories start with a car accident (which may have also resulted in a state of amnesia in The Headless Woman). Both films are somewhat surreal and involve unresolved mysteries. Even the protagonist's change of hair color plays a role in both films. I wonder to what extent Lucrecia Martel was consciously influenced by David Lynch.

Anyway, I think of her as a great filmmaker and look forward to seeing her next work!

The only difference is that The Headless Woman is copycat, pseudo-arthouse, amateurishly composed and poorly executed trash and Mulholland Drive is the greatest film of the decade.

It's reminiscent of Lynch's fragmented dreamy "woman-in-trouble" movies, but definitely doesn't deliver on the same level. After the initial accident, the movie hits a groove and stays in it right through until the end - not necessarily a bad thing, but in our household the result was boredom.

When the credits rolled we all asked, "Is that it?"

reply

When the credits rolled I said to myself, "Wow, what a great *beep* movie!"
You're missing the whole movie if you're trying to compare it to Lynch. The similarities to Lynch are superficial. This is a whole nother beast.

I love Lucrecia Martel, I think she is our best director (I am from Argentina), I find the idea of this movie great but was not well done, the cast did not help at all

Wow guys chill. I'm a big fan of David Lynch and while there might be some similarities with his work I think Lucrecia Martel pretty mucho held her own.
