Donnie Yen vs. Jet Li

If you look it up, you will see that Jet Li will make Donnie Yen look like a rag doll.

Jet Li FTW.

Just look up the facts.

Of course Donnie cannot compare with Jet Li. Their fees are already big difference.

So the saying is true, ignorant minds do think alike. Fyi, an actor salary does not make he or she better than the other.

reply

Jet Li moofies always have fantastic choreography but he looks way too cute. Way too cute... and lacks the fierceness and fury of Bruce Lee.

reply

Jet Li would beat Donnie Yen? Are you out of your mind?!!! Have you compared the kind of condition they're in?? They are the same age, but clearly Donnie kept in better condition over the years!! He's doing better work, and Donnie Yen's training is clearly more real world oriented.

Jet Li has always done the pretty stuff, where as Donnie's choreography has gotten more practical as the years have gone on, whereas Jet Li has continued to rely on special effects more and more. I mean, come on, Jet Li's last major movie was the Mummy 3. The Mummy 3??!

Donnie, on the other hand, has crafted 3 very high quality martial arts films that are destined to become classics. Sha Po Lang, Flashpoint(Dou Fo Sin), and Ip Man. All of these movies have better acting and storylines than many of Jet Li's recent films, and the action has all been non-CGI. Clearly, Donnie doesn't need or feels that he needs to do as many of these SFX outings (Dragon Tiger Gate, but even that showcased some of his real abilities!!) because he is more confident in his ability to whip arse.

Most definitely. Donnie's been great in recent films while Jet Li is going down hill. I thought Ip Man was the best Kung Fu movie to come out in some time. Better than Warlords or Fearless.

reply

That's not really fair since Li has been sick for a couple of years. For all you know he already had symptoms long before he was finally diagnosed.

In a dark alley, I would want Jet Li with me. He's actually won tournaments and real fights before. In bed, I would want Donnie Yen. He's so much more sexy than Jet Li.

Seriously folks, why are we even having this discussion? It's not like they're going to fight in real life. I mean, everyone wanted to see who was better between Jet Li and Jackie Chan... and they got their wish. Look at the lame movie that came out of Forbidden Kingdom. No need to compare. They're all good in their own rights.

reply

agree here. Donnie is wushu, forms, atletics, ballet, good for pretty choreografie movies only, Jet Li fouht real competion and IMO has more charisma. Yen is also stiff actor which here is not real problem because Ip Man was quiet and introvert 'stiff' person himself.

yes.

Actually, if you had been watching the news lately, you'd know that Donnie Yen and Jet Li fought 3 days ago. Donnie Yen wiped the floor with Jet Li, of course. No surprise there. And yes, from the footage that I've seen, Jet Li did look like a rag dool.

wtf are you talking about? where did you get this?? r u serious? last time i checked jet li schooled dy.

ROFL.

well agreed with the cream pies post, and apparently Donnie also fought as a youth against gangs or something. however- " Jet does the same stuff in every movie he makes".

no. Watch his Chen Zhen (chinese boxing mixed with karate). compare to Unleashed (no holds barred kungfu moves like throat jabs - guard that in mma haha). compare to others where he does drunken, bagua, taichi etc...

also, i think the point that people are making who bring up the competitions is that he competed against others who did nothing but train in wushu, and he won even though he was younger. Donnie has more varied training but has never trained or competed at such a high level, ever.

Except that wushu is not even based on practical fighting aspects but emphasizes merely on forms and graceful movements, which doesn't work in real fights. It's like dancing/gymnastics so Jet's 5-times championship doesn't bear any significance when it comes to real fighting.

As for Yen, his skills is at high level. In fact, his years of martial arts training, knowledge and competition/fighting experiences surpasses that of Jet Li because he got into it earlier, more profoundly and continues to learn and evolve from what he has excelled in. He's like Mark Dacascos, Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins in that they all greatly got into practical martial arts, which is something Jet Li lacks in.

I don't know which pretend fighter would win in a fake fight, but I do know that from what I've seen Donnie Yen wipes up the floor when it comes to acting skills.
