How to reconcile Alice saying the T-virus dried up all the water with

this film...

ALICE IS DUMB

Maybe she'd been roaming around areas which were deserts anyway, and just assumed the whole world was like this now.

reply

Alice isn't dumb. Anderson is. He constantly ignores stuff he said earlier.

reply

Anderson is dumb

reply

Andersons script and story from extinction is always modified by sony, plus he didnt even direct sndbhe co-wrote the script.

reply

There are few "retcons" to the story from Extinction in Afterlife:

1. Earth isn't desert, oceans still exist.

2. In Extinction Alice said that it was 5 years since Raccoon City but in Afterlife after Tokyo opening there is mention that 4 years after that scene clone attack in Tokyo happend and in commentary Paul said that Tokyo opening is set at the same time as Raccoon City incident so Extinction was set 3 years after Raccoon City, clone attack 4 years and main story from Afterlife and Retribution is set 5 years after Hive/Raccoon City/Tokyo.

reply

Raccoon City's infection spread from the U.S. to the rest of the world slowly yet at the same time quickly over a span of months, so by the time Japan got infected, it mightve been close to a year after RC. 5 years after RC and 4 after Japan.

reply

It can't be because clone attack in Tokyo happend one year after events from Extinction and 4 years after start of outbreak in Japan. So "five years" in Extinction can't works. There is timeline retcon in Afterlife or Tokyo outbreak happend 2 years after Raccoon City and it is against Paul's quote from commentary.

Dont forget that there is a possiblity that Paul completly scrapped idea about outbreak in Tokyo and retconed it to be simulation - Retribution.

reply

It couldve been a simulation, but i think it was the Chinese who infected Japan after being sold the T-Virus from Umbrella

I think that too. T-Virus survived in the ruins of Raccoon City and in the weeks spread and consumed United States then in months - the rest of world.

Umbrella did run simulations in Umbrella Prime all the time. After Earth was consumed by the virus they used simulations to search the way to control Biohazard. This can be a source behind return of Red Queen - Umbrella reactivated AI to control and run Prime Faclity.

Yeah you're right howewer Resident Evil Wiki says that Tokyo Simulation was a direct recreation of Tokyo Outbreak from 2002 and it was created by Umbrella to monitor spread of T-Virus among human race.

My current idea about timeline:

Early 90s - creation of T-Virus, simulations in Umbrella Prime, T-Virus and bioweapons sold worldwide,

June 2002 - Hive incident,

September 2002 - Raccoon City incident,

October 2002 - escape from Detroit,

November 2004 - outbreak in Tokyo,

November 2007 - Nevada,

November 2008 - clone attack in Tokyo,

November 2008 - April 2009 - capture of survivors at Alaska, evolution of undead population, creation of Las Plagas parasite,

May 2009 - land on Alaska, Wesker's betrayal, Red Queen take over Umbrella, LA Prison Riot, Arcadia crisis, Arcadia battle,

June 2009 - Undead War, destruction of Umbrella Prime, White House siege,

Well in Afterlife DVD Commentary Paul said that outbreak in Tokyo happend pretty much at the same tme as Raccoon City incident and RE Wiki set Tokyo Outbreak in October 2002 but it is against timeline from other movies:

Raccoon City incident - September 2002
ending of Apocalypse - October 2002 - 3 weeks after Raccoon City incident,
Extinction - November 2007 - 5 years after Raccoon City outbreak,
Afterlife tokyo opening - November 2004
Afterlife Tokyo clone attack - November 2008 - 4 years after outbreak in Tokyo, 1 year after Extinction,
Afterlife Alaska - May 2009 - 6 months after clone attack, 18 months after Extinction,
Retribution - June 2009 - 2-3 weeks after Afterlife,

BTW After watch of all 5 movies do you believe that Alice is a clone? (Retribution hints it)

Maybe this:

Ada: You were one of the 50 basic models. In one life she could be suburban housewife. In next a business woman in New York. In next...A SOLDIER working for Umbrella.

Flash to Resident Evil:

One: I wanna report, SOLDIER!

Ok i think that we shoud end OT and back to topic :P

Yes in Extinction Alice said that Earth is desert but at the end of movie you can see doomed rainy Tokyo. So not whole Earth became a desert. In Afterlife you can see ruins of Los Angeles. In Retribution you can see ruins of Washington.
The cities are destroyed but still exist

reply

[deleted]

Also Alice said that likes and rivers dried up but she did say nothing about oceans and in Afterlife you can see ocean coast in Alaska and in LA.

Even that it doesn't has much sense there is a option that Tokyo opening in Afterlife is retconed to be a simulation in Retribution. Tokyo Simulation in Retribution was directly featured in the same way as opening of Afterlife. There is no way to direct recreate the event from real world via simulation. This possible retcon fixes timeline issue with Tokyo opening - it has a sense that Umbrella run Tokyo Simulation two years after Raccoon City to study Biohazard.

Script modified by sony? Please, fact is Anderson just isn't a very good writer or director. He's a B movie creator at best and that's fine he has his place but dont pretend he's hamstrung by anything aside from his own talent.

Sony gave him massive amounts of creative freedom in every single movie and more then enough budget. Problem is he used that budget on effects and locations completely ignoring that resident evil is supposed to be a slow burn horror suspense movie not a huge action flick with zombies

reply

Ok, first of all, Anderson isn't dumb, you people just don't know how to pay attention. She NEVER said OCEANS dried up, she said LAKES and RIVERS dried up. Small bodies of water on land. The world is NOT a desert it's just slowly becoming a barren wasteland. Most plant life is dead, not all of it but 90% of it is.

reply

Afterlife is somekind of reboot of the storyline. Several plotpoints from Extinction are changed. Earth isn't a desert anymore. Lakes, rivers and oceans still exist. But Earth is still deserted wasteland consumed by T-Virus and populated by undead and Umbrella BOWs.
