Taken on its own, the movie is pretty pedestrian. It isn't very good, but isn't the worst produced piece of film in existence either.
However, when you temper the sheer mediocrity of every part of the movie (writing, casting, acting, production, marketing) against Tucker's promises and predictions, the movie is a complete turd. The movie offered NOTHING that Tucker Max bragged about.
Tucker was bragging about Oscar nods and completely changing the Hollywood paradigm. His movie got exactly zero award nominations.
He bragged about being a marketing pioneer. He was spouting off about his genius marketing plan and then threw his marketing company under the bus when his own plan didn't work.
His goal was to beat the Hangover at the box office. The movie wasn't even good enough to make half of its production budget back at the theaters.
He even bragged about his casting choices. He claimed that he wanted lower tier actors so that his film could catapult their careers.
He even bragged about what he was doing the lighting ... until the lighting was panned by critics and he threw his director under the bus.
It is like Tucker Max owns a car rental and promised you an exotic supercar, but handed you keys to a Geo Metro when you got to the counter. Then he blames everyone but himself when he is called out on the shortcoming. Sure the Metro will get you from point A to point B, but it isn't nearly as much fun as you were promised. This movie is just another example of Tucker over-promising and under-delivering. The good thing is that in Hollywood, word gets around fast. No one will be renting a car from Tucker Max anytime soon. But maybe you can check him out at his crossbow range. Do the research, people!
