Why does Mr. Gilbert keep covering for...

...'Paedo Kennedy?' Twice he tries to molest Neil and Mr. Gilbert manages to show up and lead him away. Considering the *beep* Gilbert would be in if it was revealed there was sexual predator on the school premises and he did nothing about it, it makes you wonder if Kennedy has something on him.

Because it's a fictional tv show.

You don't say? I was looking for more of an 'in-story' answer, kthxbai.

Not sure really. I guess they could have worked together at the school for many years so Kennedy was a close friend of his before the whole peado thing came to his attention so he feels, as his good friend he can protect Kennedy from being exposed. Who knows, maybe even Mr Gilbert is human in some ways.

I think it's a plot hole?/goof?, but it's obviously only intented as a comedic running joke, so to think too much into it wasn;t the idea.
But to be honest, I have no idea. I guess Kennedy worked at the school years and Gilbert is covering for him. That's probably the best answer anyone can give since there is no reference to anything to suggest anything else.

yeah, a known 'peter file' allowed to roam around in a school full of kids is quite unbelievable.
But then, it's just a ruddy TV show.

is trying to avoid a scandal associated with the school.

This.

Partly because he wants to avoid a school scandal, and partly because (I think) the paedo teacher looks a bit "slow" and pathetic, he doesn't seem like the typical dangerous paedophile.

Dude, he got Neil vodka and had he drank it and became incapacitated, he would have been an easy rape in the night...

Anyway, I think it's not addressed in the show because the show plays it up for blatant laughs and isn't worried about narrative continuity or that every joke perfectly aligns with plausible scenarios.

Definitely to avoid scandal and that's the only reason.

On the fashion show episode as Gilbert walks Kennedy away he says "I put my neck on the line for you"

Seems that Gilbert has vouched for Kennedy in the past.

Gilbert's attitude is also reflected in the time that Will is tied to the chair with a bucket over his head.

Gilbert doesn't want to know.... everyone hates a grass. Like many school teachers, Gilbert still clings to the code of the schoolboy because he's never really left school.
