Spoiler....but a wonderful scene

Have just seen this for the second time, getting "more" on the second viewing.

From the onset, the movie is very dark. Both physically (night) and Jamie's very being. Heck, Jamie's job is in a darkroom. Even the daylight scenes are overcast and gloomy. I do believe that he is even reading Dante's "Inferno" while watching TV with his Mom. (Interesting that the TV is showing a butterfly emerging from its cocoon while he is reading the "Inferno"). All the terrible, terrible, horrific things happen. Even the guy who owns the convenience store is on a dark tirade.

Then, after his metamorphosis from his burned out shell, he has become this beautiful butterfly and there is a light around him and in his face. The sky is brighter and almost sunny as he returns to the flat and tells the bullies to "eff off" and look at him. He then runs into Tea and even the corridor/foyer is brighter and his face is just glowing with hope and expectation. When he invites Tea into his flat for water, he is almost flitting around like a butterfly. He cannot contain his joy. The afternoon he spends with her at the park, with the cameras and the magical tree, the tentative kiss in the tube, and the absolute joy he feels when she agrees to meet him the next night at 7:00pm, and his happy dance through the station. Absolutely well done! The writer, director, photographer, and Sturgess were amazing in these scenes. The viewer is just as elated and giddy as Jamie. Loved it!

Anyway, I just had to say this. Thank you.

P.S. First saw Sturgess in "Across The Universe". That opening scene blew me away for several reasons. I am 67 years old and saw the Beatles in 1964 at the Indiana State Fair, was most definitely a "Paul Girl", and lived through the turbulent 60's. An old high school chum (a guy) told me that I was REQUIRED to see ATU.

So, I see it. The opening scene, shot from behind, is Jude singing the John Lennon song, "Girl". Jude turns around and I swear to gawd that he is Paul McCartney's clone or illegitimate son singing a John Lennon song. All I could think in that moment was: "What???? This better be a fabulous movie or I am going kill a friend and the writer and director of this movie, let alone the Paul spawn!"

Needless to say, the movie mesmerized and have been a Sturgess fan ever since.

Thank you.
