I've seen pretty much all of the "evil baby" movies... I'd have to say, in my own personal view, this was one of the better ones... To me, anyway.

Because ultimately the mother was stupid. She was stupid for several reasons:

1. She thought the only way to get pregnant was to ditch her lesbian lover and get married. However, she could have found a willing donor through a one night stand or just paid for in-vitro through someplace. It was 2009, but it wasn't the stone age and you can't tell me that she couldn't have found someone in San Fran that wasn't willing to work with her.

2. She continued to try to fight against her true nature by staying married to a man she clearly wasn't attracted to physically and possibly romantically. It was pretty obvious at the start that it was all about babies for her- the husband was just there to start the ball rolling.

3. She ignored all common sense, that a baby that wants blood for every meal would have some severe abnormalities. Even her ex-lover, Ms Earth Mother, recommends that it'd be a good idea to go to the hospital for tests, only for Madeline to ignore her.

4. She didn't seem to protest when Grace started using her boobs for a chew toy.


That makes sense that it'd be a good alternative to use a baby bottle, but Madeline (and to a lesser extent, Patricia) were too clouded and stupid to think about it. There's a limit to how much of the above would be a mother's love and how much of it is just someone being deliberately stupid.

I think she was just desperate to have that kind of bonding with the baby. She went through so much just to have one, she wanted to have the bond she'd been dreaming about.

What was she supposed to do? Go to a blood bank and have them draw her own blood and give it back to her?
