HOW ABOUT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO FIND A NEW HIT SCI-FI SERIES.....

You just bloody bring back Firefly, seriously Firefly is a better sci-fi series than any of the new one's that have been brought out since.

BSG was badass for a while but lets face it, it got a bit dull.

TSCC lost it's way for a while, but came back strong just to be cancelled.

Dollhouse can pass the time but is not even in the same league as Firefly.

Fringe is alright but I would trade 10 seasons of it in a second for just one more season of Firefly.

Virtuality will never get picked up because... well it was just boring, the premise has promise if you would get rid of the reality t.v aspect, and re-write it so the crew doesn't actually BEGIN the whole journey already completely messed up, but these things can develop along the way, oh and a bit more adrenaline moments, I by no means need an explosion a second to enjoy a bit of sci-fi but a little action is needed, and I do not mean virtual reality action.

The whole 'holo-deck goes wrong' story line always bored me in star trek, so to have an entire series based on that is just not a good idea.

Seriously just bring back Firefly already.

I welcome any opinions on a decent sci-fi that has came out in the last few years, I am literally putting all my hope in stargate universe.

I DEMAND GOOD SCI-FI!

Get over it, Firefly is gone. GONE. Enjoy the series and movie that you got.

reply

Hey man I didn't say It would happen.

Just that it should.

Seriously, you and everyone else like you who feel they need to whine about other TV shows on this forum. Please don't. Yes Fox or moronic fools who don't know/don't care about a good Scifi show when they have it. But thats the world we live in unfortunately.

If you didn't like Virtuality, thats fine.. Move along. But this isn't the place to talk about BSG, TSCC, Dollhouse or Firefly.. Virtuality has no bearing on those shows and visa versa. If you really feel so strongly, go bug Fox.

reply

My apologies, I was under the impression this was an open forum.

A place to share opinions, obviously I was wrong!

When deciding how good a show is, ultimately you compare it to others in that genre, which is precisely why those shows DO have a bearing on virtuality.

If you think otherwise then you must have an incredibly unique system on judging things.

I have no problem with comparisons to relevant shows. But you just listed a bunch of shows that you were upset about in one way or another. It had no real relevance to Virtuality.

Yes it's an open forum, but maybe you can understand how it feels to come somewhere to talk about a show that you enjoyed and wanted to discuss, only to be confronted by people either whinging that it sucked or claiming the show was somehow responsible for another shows demise. It's sad really.

Maybe there should be a separate forum for folk to have a good whinge :).

reply

Well I in no way implied 'Firefly' of 'TSCC' were cancelled because of this show, so I have no idea where you got that idea from.

I did not list shows I am upset about, just the most recent Sci-Fi's that have been about, and how I feel they compare.

I actually said that 'Virtuality' had promise, the execution however left much to be desired, A 10 year mission to save earth has got countless possibilities, instead they decided to run with the much used 'Virtual reality goes bad' idea, coupled with a reality t.v show twist, and a space ship containing the 12 best people for the job, who for some reason are already completely messed up.

Then implied at the end that the whole thing was not real anyway, I find it hard to care about things that are not actually happening.

If you enjoyed it then I am glad, but judging from the response on these forums, and the fact the show has not been picked up yet I would say you are in the minority, I also think this is by no means a 'you just did not get it' moment, sadly the potential this show could have had, was just wasted.

IMDB has forums for each film/show/actor etc in order for them to be discussed, it is not a fan site, basically what I am saying, and am by no means trying to be rude, is that discussions and opinions go both ways, you can come here and say how much you enjoyed the show, and I can come here and say how dissapointed I am with the show, and current Sci-fi as a whole.

Firefly, Journeyman, New Amsterdam, TSCC, all cancelled, all better than current sci-fi, and better than 'Virtuality'.

ok.

i totally agree with the OP...firefly is awesome and FOX deserves to go bankrupt for all the crappy decisions they make!
it's just ridiculous...

reply

Firefly did not get the ratings it needed and the movie Serenity did not make enough box office to justify more. Sad but true.

At least we have the DVDs.

reply

Screw all those series you mentioned (well except star trek which is the mount olympus of sci fi) bring back Farscape it trumps them all!

but seriously i'm trying to find a place to watch this pilot somewhere. anywhere know where i can?

reply

D.l from bittorrent is your best bet.

Farscape was cool but got a bit too crazy, fell into the classic trap of a series that goes on too long and people obviously run out of ideas so it gets a bit out there.

As much as I would love to see Firefly come back, it's just not realistic, especially with Nathan Fillion busy with Castle. But Firefly was far to serial in nature to be successful coming back after being off air for over 6 years now. There's too much missing backstory. It's not like Family Guy or Futurama where it's a bunch of one off episodes which have no influence or effect on each other.

The initial target audience of a continuation show would consist of something like 90% of old fans and maybe 10% new ones. The problem is not everyone who watched the first one will watch the new one, and the number of Firefly fans compared to the total number of people watching tv just isn't large enough. It's just not marketable at the moment, especially considering a show like Firefly likely needed quite a large production budget.

There are however a few more realistic possibilities. The most plausible would be another movie, either in theaters, on tv, or possibly using the same Model as the SG-1 movies and going straight to dvd and then later airing on tv.

The other less likely possibility is a reboot, but that would alienate fans, so I don't see it.

reply

I think a reboot or continuation of Firefly, as long as it had the same actors, would bring back most of the old fans easily, and gain new ones.

Look at the current sci-fi's on TV at the moment, there is nothing that compares, SG-Universe is getting off to a shaky start, BSG got horrible after season 1, 'V' is doing OK but it isn't really sci-fi if we are honest, I simply can not think of anything at the moment that is in the same league.

Would you feel alienated by a reboot? Personally I would just be happy to have it back!

Another film wouldn't go amiss, although it wouldn't feel the same without Shepherd or Washburne. Maybe a reboot would be the best thing so we could have those two characters back!

Hell yes on a second season of Firefly. I'm right there with you on that. I'd even take a Firefly season 1 rerun over anything that's current.

reply

and the greatest sci-fi show ever made is the stargate franchise... you failed to bring that up.

You gotta admit, while it would have been awesome to continue following TSCC, the way they wrapped it up with him skipping judgement day and ending up in a future where nobody knows him (obviously, since he disappeared into the future as a teenager, lol, so he missed the whole machine takeover), was absolutely awesome, all 5 mins of it.

Still, the 1st season finale was crazy fun, that last scene with the bloody pool full of FBI is best of.

Firefly was awesome too, I hated to see it go.

"You were assimilated, resistance was futile!"

From a practical standpoint I think the cast has moved on:

Fillion has Castle.
Baldwin has Chuck.
Baccarin has V.
Glau has The Cape (new superhero series on NBC).
Tudyk is well...dead.

I don't know what the rest are up to. Maybe they'd like to get on with their lives and leave the Comic Con crowd behind.

reply

Lol I posted this ages ago.

I still think they should start it up again, and they could always bring back Tudyk, it's the future, who's to say he couldn't be saved from his injuries!

Comic con? ain't that where people dress up as sci fi stuf, why does doing firefly mean they have be a part of that *beep*

BSG didn't become dull to me.

reply

The ratings hint most people thought other wise. It lost 69% of it's already small viewing audience, that started watching it. It was a really bad interpretation of Larson's BSG creation, that most of the TOS fanbase hated. TOS BSG had 29-65 million weekly viewers, where as Moore's new show had less than 3 million. That's why NBC-U is backing Larson and Singer for a theatrically released BSG movie based on the TOS 1978-79 series... not Moore's new show.
