it does not seem like ANYTHING that would get picked up... it does not look like TV or feel like TV.
The most VR aspect of this show is that it was even produced and made... so far from anything that gets picked up.

Actually it looked a LOT like Defying Gravity (see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1319690/combined), another TV show about a long space trip that came out in the same year. It only lasted one season.
Maybe there was something about that year that suggested this sort of story? In 2007 the film SUNSHINE was released, another film about a doomed space mission. Neither Virtuiality nor Defying Gravity had the "look" of other TV shows of the time. With Defying Gravity that was part of its charm. Not so with this film.
