This DID become a series—Caprica

No, Caprica wasn't on a space ship, but note the use of the visors to create a VR world. Caprica was sort of a prequel to Battlestar Galactic, but the Caprican technology appeared way in advance of that on BG. Caprica looked like 2040 and Galactica looked like 1940. It just seems that rather than scrap the ideas here, the producers pushed them into the series they had a go ahead on.

oddly enough that makes sense

Shall we find something to kill to cheer ourselves up?-hk-47

Whoever wants to watch "this" show, should just watch Caprica + Stargate Universe.

Caprica looks advanced because the colonies dont trust technology. The cylons use VR to see and they see the world according to how they want to see it. This was actually shown in BSG. Thats why the robot humans can navigate inside those hybrid ships and live in it even though it looks vastly unsuitable for humans. That is also the reason why the colonists do not use robots or AI or even computers for most things except for calculations. Considering Virtuality is about leaving earth you could day the original colonists came from earth and they were the ancestors of BSG and Caprica and what happened before and it will all happen again. Considering the age of the universe and our life times, we might do it again and again millions of times. Other than that, Caprica was about how the robots became sentient turned against humans comparing that to this show would be like saying its a cop show. They all have badges and guns and catch bad guys.

No, I don't think so. Rather, if some of the concepts were re-used they went into DEFYING GRAVITY (see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1319690/combined), which came out the same year and is also about a long term space trip withj delusional aspects.

CAPRICA on the other hand plays around with several ideas, not just a virtual reality component - "What is a Person?" and/or "What is a Soul?" are just two of the questions asked in Caprica. In Virtuality we seem to have a vague remake of 2001, including an incident with a faulty communications module that results in a death. At least with Caprica they got at least one season done. With Virtuality the Pilot was it.

Craprica blew chunks. I'd watch Virtuality over that or Battle Gaylactica any day.
