Do fans of a book, anime, or whatever always hate the movie version?

Isn't it inevitable that fans of a book, anime, manga, comic, first film are not going to like a new version or remake as much as the original that inspired their love of a story?

I don't see how any new film can meet the expectations of a fan of something original. There will always be an important part of the story that was left out, or a poor casting choice. Something will be wrong and lead to disappointment.

Anyway, I saw Ghost In The Shell yesterday in the cinema, just before it finished it's run here, and I liked it, a lot. I have seen the original anime movie from 1995, and this may not be as good in some ways, but that doesn't matter to me. The new movie Ghost In The Shell created a believable world that felt real and kept me hooked the entire time. My main complaint is that I thought the character of Cutter was not developed enough so he seemed two-dimensional, but other than that, this movie was way better than I had expected.

Ultimately, fans are gonna hate, and so while few films are a 10 (which Ghost In The Shell is definitely not), it is better than the discussion here and elsewhere suggests.

Yea lots probably hate remakes/adaptions of stuff but on the other hand you will also have die hard fans who will watch or read anything to do with the original.

I liked the Ghost in the Shell live action. It was just a bit of popcorn fun entertainment.

Lots of people are not even aware of if something is a remake or whatever.

I liked the film. It could have been better but I figure the budget woulden't allow for it. And I figure targeting a larger PG-13 audience would diminish the shocking violence of the original anime and deprive us of the nonchalant reaction to the violence the original characters exhibited in the original story.

Just finished the movie and it delivered everything i wanted to see in a Ghost in the Shell Movie. It was very, very good.
Agree on Cutter, his character was a bit generic. That was perhaps the only flaw i saw in it.

I love GIT, have all the animes, from the 1995, to Arise, and love them all. And this live action, while not a 10, it´s clearly a 9 to me. ScarJo was the perfect Motoko.
I´m very sad the movie floped. This ruins the chances for merchandise and new Motoko figures. It sucks bad.

I couldn't agree more. It was excellent. My only complaint is the PG-13 rating, but I understand why the director/studio decided to make it a bit less violent/sexual to garner it (bigger audience).
