If done right and it's not whitewashed(the characters are Asian),I would like it to see it

Ask the guards, they'll deny it. Ask the inmates here—they'll cut their tongues out before they talk

Don't know why it has to have Asians in it to be "done right" considering the original dub for the cartoon changed many of the character names and backgrounds along with the fact this movie is being made by the same American studio who created the new 2016 cartoon version of the show which again features those similar and referenceable character names and background changes that already existed from the previous incanation dub of the franchise. Also the 2016 version doubled up in the original names and made them their own so they are canon and official and recognized by the American Audience. Only one or two of the characters are Asian in both of these incanations if you even give them a Earth human race. The characters race's which is never stated, seems to have a mixed cast regardless.

There is little to no reason or financial gain to naming those characters by any original Japanese name or making all the characters Asian because it has never been presented to the American audience that way. It would not only make zero sense financially but no one would understand any of it especially with the new version available.

And that's what makes Voltron, like Speed Racer, a whitewash.

How does localizing a race-less cartoon whitewashing? How is the mixed race 2016 version and most likely the version they will make the movie on, whitewashing? How do you white-wash a cartoon by changing names of the characters? The original Voltron is mixed ambiguous races. Why are you guys even talking about whitewashing? This has nothing to do with whitewashing.

Do you guys just see "japanese cartoon gets live action adaptation" and start trying to find any reason to call it racist without actually knowing anything about the media in question? Did you ever watch Voltron? Princess Allura is anything but Asian looking. But in the new version, she's black instead of white looking. Most of the characters don't look Asian because they aren't. Not all characters are Asian in Anime.

In the case of Voltron,Robotech,Pokemon,Speed Racer,Sailor Moon Etc
Some People thought the characters were white because of the name changes and people will use that as a defence when a role is whitewashed

There names are not reflected of their race with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions if you even view it like that. They are just names.

Most of those characters are not Asian. And that's just the main cast. The only character said to even be Asian is the character Daniel whom does not exist in the original media. He only exist in an earlier American version of the show.

This is a multicultural cast very similar to Captain Planet if I had to give it any sort of relation to another cartoon. The only difference is the character design for Voltron is garbage and completely outdated. It was localized with the name changes because the race and names are not important, and Japanese names are not common in America.

What the characters look like doesn't matter because obviously there is a discrepancy based on what part of the world views it, hence the ambiguous features and fictional other attributes in their appearance, which is common in Anime and completely intentional. The same way for some strange reason, Japanese people see Goku as "Asian looking" (He doesn't) and the west see's Goku for what he really looks like. A Saiyan. Because he distinctively looks different then the rest of the cast that features White and Asian characters and looks nothing like either of them.

Basically, some of these character can pass as white in the original Japanese media. BUT, this isn't even a problem because the movie is being made by the same company that created and redesigned Voltron in 2016 and again their features are ambiguous at best with maybe 1 character being Asian. The rest are multicultural with literally one white guy in it or possibly 2. Most news sites praise the cartoon for this very fact. If the movie is being based on anything, it's going to be based on the restablished 2016 version. Why didn't you shout foul play when the cartoon was made? Or what about the previous cartoon version? The 2011 version features specifically an Asian, Black, and Caucasian female as the main cadets of the series.

This is why I get confused on these boards. You guys, like I said, just see something about Japanese anime being adapted in the west, and cry white-washing and racism for absolutely no reason.

Asians are not suffering because they aren't in enough movies. They are in plenty of movies, west and foreign. Someone has to be at the bottom of the least sold racial group in America. It just happens to be Asians. Oh well. Pretty sure White people are at the bottom in many other domestic box offices in the world. Gee, I wonder why that is. I wonder why the majority race of a country is the largest market demographic for a given location.

No real responses? Would not have expected any more of you all.

Oh well, until an actual argument is presented to me in a non-ad hominem way, I guess I win this argument too.

Too much strawmanning here.
