did they ever explain what the metal flecks were and why they did what they did to the owls...?
i like this movie. it was pretty good on all fronts, a few things here and there missed the mark though. this was one. feel like it needed a bit of explanation if they never did, but i could have just missed it.
Yes, it is never really explained what those metal flecks were. As far as i remember Soren said that these flecks are somehow messing up the gizzards of the owls. Apart from that it seems to be some sort of magnetic mineral.
Perhaps someone who has read the books can explain a little more about the flecks.

and there you go. too bad they couldnt come up with a way to say that in the movie.
shareIt did but not very directly and never any specifics about why it did what it did. A lot of the flecks power had to come from inferring based on observation and obscure comments.
Ex: The magnetic field they created and the Nyra comment about only effecting gizzards.
The books explain it way better but of course the movie had to condense.
