Legend Of The Guardians Is The Worst Animated Movie Of 2010

Worst Movie I ever saw left 40 minutes into it. It is not worth your money unless they play the roadrunner cartoon which by the way should be a lot longer. I wish I had not payed $12 to see it instead I wish I payed $5 only that is what I would have payed to see the cartoon. I really hope Yogi Bear is better because otherwise these short cartoons infront the movies will not make up for the fact that this movie was a bad movie.

How could any of you actually think this was a good movie you must all be smoking drugs. How To Train Your Dragon was the mona lisa compared to this. Toy Story 3 is like the statue of david the best work of art ever this movie was total garbage really stinky garbage.

This movie should win the award for worst animated movie I ever seen in a long time heck Thomas The Tank is probably better at least that's short and the action starts in the first 5 minutes.

reply

I have to admit I wasn't thrilled with it either. My husband and I took our 7 year old, who begged to see it since he saw it advertised. About 20 minutes into it he was squirming and asked when it would be over. I thought the visual effects were wonderful but I had a hard time following the story and keeping the characters straight.

reply

I love this movie. Finally something that was actually value for money in cinema.

It's no surprise your 7 year old son started squirming and asking when it'd be over. Just look what crap kids watch these days on tv... so, when they actually see something good, they can't recognize it as good but as boring.
I guess there wasn't enough violence and blood and anime/emo *beep* looking characters in this movie for your son to find it interesting, instead there was a story and a moral.
But that's just my opinion.

reply

You just insulted her son, herself, children in general, and an entire genre that you obviously don't know much about.
You could've expressed yourself in an entirely different manner.
Anime can be incredibly beautiful, and have amazingly deep plots dealing with serious issues.
Even cartoons, such as Avatar The Last Airbender, deals with many issues in mature ways, is respectful of different cultures, and is amazing and loved by children and adults alike.
It's not just for little boys.
I mean, here you are watching an animated film, about fluffy animals in fact.

reply

My point wasn't in insluting her son or any kid, it was in the fact that children don't watch quality movies any more. So when they meet with movie like this, they are bored and they see no point in watching such a movie. The sad part is when they parents react the way that woman did.
Personaly, I don't like anime 'cause I don't see beauty in it, sorry.
Those are cartoons full of violent action made in a technic that almost caused me an epileptic seasure. You say anime deals with many issues in mature way? Ok! This movie did the same thing in "immaure" (I say Immature 'cause obviously taht was your point, in between the lines) way that was suitable to children and adults. Yes, it was an animated film about fluffy animals, but it was a beautiful film.

Fool is the man whose madness does not mach the madness of most.

reply

Worst animated film? The animation was groundbreaking, absolutely beautiful. It is simply a work of art. My only complaint was not enough fart jokes and that the owls didn't break into extended musical sequences, because if you do that adults don't criticize plot holes. If it had done that it would have made more money then toy story.

<<<Personaly, I don't like anime 'cause I don't see beauty in it, sorry.

like that episodde of Pokemom which caused many kids in Japan to have epilectic seizures?

I don't like anime, either.

reply

In other words, you've watched one or two things, and judges the thousands upon thousands of other anime upon them.
Way to live! Ignorant and proud of it, so it seems.

It doesn't matter whether it was your point or not.
I maintain that what you said was at the least judgmental and stereotypical, if not offensive.
Why did you assume her son watches violent anime?
Because he's a boy, or because he's a child?
Or because he disliked something you liked, so you thought he must like something you don't?
Or are you just resentful because you have epilepsy? (okay, I'm kidding with that one, lol) Wait... ALMOST caused you an epileptic seizure? how does that work?

Anyway, YOU missed MY point completely.
I do not think Legend Of The Guardians is immature at all - I have not watched it, so I have no reason to think its immature based on content, and as I love animated films, cartoons and family films and encourage everyone to watch them, I do not think it's "immature" based on that.
My point was I thought it was ironic, that a grown woman like yourself can watch and enjoy an animated family oriented movie, but will criticize another animated genre and put it down to kids stuff.

Anime may not be your idea of quality, but it is some peoples, and you have obviously only seen a certain kind of anime, such as Dragon Ball Z or something (which in Japan would not be necessarily aimed at children, but at all ages or adults, so thats why its violent)
Anime has just as many genres as movies or television shows.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291350/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102587/

Those are two anime titles that deal with relationships and life, and involve no monsters or vampires or superpowers, and aren't aimed at children.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096283/

And these are FAMILY FRIENDLY animes.

Bravo!! I love anime because it deals with so many different subjects and anime in itself can portray things that you just can't see in life. Sure there is violent anime, but then there is violent movie and cartoons, so what? It's the choice of the parent right? Of course I love fluffy animal movies, too. Personally, I'm a horror fan, but there's so much more out there to enjoy as well.

And Legend Of The Gaurdians is a fantastic film, just watched it! But that is my opinion and people seem to forget that an jump on people for no reason. Ah well...

Carry on Nutmeg95! And thank you for pointing out to people all these wonders.

reply

If your point isn't to insult, why do it? "Children don't watch quality movies any more"? By your standards? A person who doesn't like anime but takes the time to sneer at other people's opinions?

This movie's trailers made my 6 yr old granddtr beg for it. And then it was disturbing to the point that she crawled into my lap and went to sleep. She never saw any of the parts that had been in the trailer, so she missed 99% of the beauty in it. She didn't like it, but could sleep through it because the story line was so poorly done.

It wasn't the violence, but the dark meanness of it (plus the incomprehensible story). In a child's life, being mean doesn't translate to happily using your baby sister to start a war. This was NOT SUITABLE for younger children, and I think older children will be disgusted with it. They aren't stupid and don't like to be woofed. Make a sensible story line, not one that will make them walk away asking questions like, "What made the sister comatose and what brought her out of it?" Even the snake was poorly done. There was plenty of room for it to be interesting, but they just threw it in as if the very presence of a snake in an owl family should be fun. Even the magnets and the moon's effects weren't clear or sensible. D- on story. A++ on visual

i only discovered this movie because my infant son loved the opening sequences so much. it came on after something on the television and he was mesmerized. now, being a baby, he doesn't have the attention span to watch much of it, but i've watched it in its entirety now (as well as the first 5 minutes about a million times, especially when he's teething!). i think it's pretty good. the story is not incomprehensible, and my biggest complaint, honestly, is that it's pretty derivative, seeming like a mashup of every fantasy film trope you could think of. still, it's artfully done, the dialogue is amusing and i think it introduces a lot of interesting concepts i look forward to talking about with my son... when he is much older, obviously. things like child soldiers and genocide and race supremacy are not often broached in children's films and i think this movie actually handles them quite well, for what it is.

with that being said, what were you thinking taking a 6 year old to see this without checking it out yourself first? it's rated pg and you can tell from all the marketing that its about kidnapped children.

reply

"Personaly, I don't like anime 'cause I don't see beauty in it, sorry."

comparable to saying "Personaly, I don't like american/russian/spanish/hungarian animation 'cause I don't see beauty/story/art/whatever in it" --> bullcrap

"Those are cartoons full of violent action made in a technic that almost caused me an epileptic seasure."

well, you've obviously seen some weird crap like Pokemon, or something. dont know, I've seen over 100 anime films & series and never watched something that can be described like that, except in AMVs on YouTube

i don't think this is a quality movie. it's ok, but it's not anything really special. i think snyder would probably kill himself if he was forced to make a movie without any slow-mo, short focus action shots. the story seems derivative to me also... nyra seems like a cross between the white witch (narnia) and saruman. the scene where they brainwash the owls reminds me of the dark crystal. granted, we haven't finished watching it, but the story is very familiar.

i think the op was being ridiculous to call it the worst, but there is nothing to suggest there's anything wrong with someone's kid for not enduring this film. it kind of seems like it was made for people who already liked the book.

Wow, it is amazingly ridiculous that you think you have more right than a kid to decide what is a good movie/cartoon for kids and what is not.

reply

The response should be: "It's no surprise your 7 year old started squirming..." this is not a movie for 7 year olds. Its themes are directly geared for the teenager and adults. Fortunately, most kids have no idea or concept of the cruelty of humanity with regards to human trafficking.

My lord, you are limited. I fear for your children.

Why would you take your 7 year old to see this movie? It's not a kids movie. It's about child slavery and kidnapping. lol.

reply

Because, clearly, your all mighty opinion should trump everyone else's. Heaven forbid someone actually have different tastes than you! Nope, they are completely wrong and must be on drugs.

Get over yourself.

reply

way to feed the troll man

reply

I am not a troll I happen to love almost every movie I see the only exceptions were this movie which I hated The Day The Earth Stood still which although not bad a movie still wasn't very good either and the Thomas The Tank Movies Space Chimps hopefully the sequel to that movie is better than the first one and the Sesame Street kids movies which I know I way to old to make an opinion on however even when I was 6 I hated Sesame Street.

Heck I never even left a movie before thats how bad this movie was.

reply

It would have been better if you had gone into more detail why you believe that it was the worst animated movie of the year. At least we could have either agreed or disagreed with you based on specifics and not based on your opinion alone. Regards.

reply

Though I found it enjoyable, I thought it was too short and the ending was too sudden. Zack Snyder also kept the door open for a sequel.

reply

ummmmm.... you went to see Thomas the Tank Engine and Space Chimps? I don't even know what to say about that, except that I won't be taking your movie critique very seriously, as it sounds like you are a 9 year old boy.

reply

I just saw this and thought it was brilliant; I had no trouble following the story and actually found it much better than I expected. I like the comparison to "The Secret of NIMH" as it's not a movie for very young children. It's dark and not for the faint of heart. This one's a keeper.

reply

other than talking animals I see no comparison to NIMH. the owl movie was not very dark at all..there was some battling but since there were no characters there was no emotional investment in this violence and it was just owls scartchign each other.

listen to the receiving end of sirens.

reply

You can't really comment on how bad a movie is, if you haven't seen all of it.

reply

Holocaust? Yike. I thought it was far easier to find a disturbing quality. To take a loving family and loving (though stupidly not better formulated) nursemaid, and have one of the children be so angry and disturbed that they were thrilled to abduct their baby sister to use as bait in a war? ... no one sees that as being deeply disturbing?

I have yet to read anyone commenting on this, and I'm baffled. Besides the fact that I thought it was WAY too disturbing for young children, it was also way too poorly set together for adults. I expect more comprehensible story lines. Too much was half done. And that is really too bad, because I'd love to just cut off the first half of the story and watch the last half over and over. Forget turning on my radio and just leave that soaring animation on my tv all day while I work. A++ on animation. D- to F on story

reply

I haven't seen this movie but somehow I doubt that it is worse than Alpha and Omega.

reply

ok, who cares what you like. i liked it, seen it twice, more ppl have seen it and like it, have your opinion whatever, if you can't handle it then by all means just kill yourself, we'll all be good without you.

Sounds like some hate towards How to Train Your Dragon. HTTYD was like the Mona Lisa compared to Legend of the Guardians because HTTYD was fantastic, while LOTG was just good.

Sorry but, since you left after only a 1/3 of the film you cant call it the worst of the year. Also, anyone who walks out of a film before the end shouldnot be able to give an opinion because after all, how can you judge a film on the WHOLE if you dont watch it all?

reply

Well, I would concur that if you want a movie like Yogi Bear you went to the wrong flick with Legend of the Guardians.

I think this movie is for fans of movies like Secret of NIMH or Narnia etc. Even folks who liked The Lion King who probably like "heroic quests done by animated animals..."

Not exactly Thomas the Tank Engine.

A good question is, why would you not know this before you paid your $11?

reply

Funny how I really disliked the CG in the first Narnia, the lion's mane was just way too over the top, kinda like a Pantene Shampoo/conditioner commercial. So I didn't see the next one, nor did I see NIM. Considering this, I fully expected to hate this film, seeing the nature of the comments, but I live in a small town with few choices, and this was my last remaining option, versus Case 39. As I dislike Renee Zellwiger with a passion, I went for the owls.

Wow, I was so surprised! The CG was right on, right to their cute little bird tongues, what a cool touch. And I thought the betrayal of brothers to be quite well done, in a simple kind of way. I don't have children, so I can't say about how they'd like it, I thought some of the lines were cute, like daymares and such. And each owl had a very distinct personality, but I think I most liked the antics of the burrowing owl, he made me laugh more than once.

True, as one of the commentators said, the hero is a little too efficient at battle, but I can live with that, for a short time. The fight scenes were quite nicely done also. Now I've been around a lot of Aussies and Brits and Kiwis in my life, so I was ok with the accents, but they were kinda strong for a N.American kid who's not used to them.

I don't much like made for children animations, I'm a long time past those years, but this one I liked.

***So I've seen 4 movies/wk in theatre for a 1/4 century, call me crazy?**

reply

Aw, don't put NIMH next to Narnia while making a point; it hurts.

reply

but you have to confess that this film does look great, you can tell they counted the feathers on every bird. i just love the look of the film
