Recently started, at end of Season 2, and annoyed

It is a pretty decent show for prime time TV. I think Filion makes the show, but Stana and her supporting actors make a great cast.

However, I am frustrated with the show. Not anywhere in the world would two single people have that chemistry and not get involved. It is one thing if they hated each other, but they don't. Beckett gets jealous, and he obviously cares about her, too. Is there something I missed?

Please tell me it improves.

Keep watching. It takes awhile but there will be a big payoff. I could tell you when but that would be spoilers. Seasons 3 and 4 are great.

reply

I thoroughly enjoy this show. It isn't "will they or won't they;" but "when will they?" As you pointed out, they have terrific chemistry. Just try to let it ride and enjoy it. The most entertaining prime broadcast TV I've ever seen.

reply

Okay, I will continue. I know they get together in a few seasons (hard not to see spoilers at this late in the game). Just seem like they're dragging it on a while.

On a side note, I'd need a restraining order if I were an actress working with him. He could have chemistry with a cactus.

Great comment!!!

Beckett is consciously fighting it and as we know she is world class at being stubborn.

reply

I know. She just dates a lot of others but mostly obviously cares about him.

I forget which one, but in an early interview, Fillion says the network told the producers to pull back on the romantic relationship between Castle and Beckett because it seemed like they were going to jump into bed very early.

Maybe someone here remembers more details.

I recall it was a Katic interview, but I don't remember which it was either.

There is a theory in Hollywood that the moment you let characters in a TV show get intimate, much less married, the death of the show will not be far behind. Witness for the prosecution: the awful last two seasons of Castle--a slow and horrible demise ;-}

All during season 7, I kept expecting one of the characters to wake up--a la Dallas--and reveal the most recent episodes were the result of a fevered dream or extensive coma.

I see your point, but how long can the producers keep a couple like Castle and Beckett apart? Wouldn't the audience become bored and stop watching?

Besides, "Bones" has survived nicely after Booth and Brennan got together.

"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made."

reply

I gave up on Bones before they got married. Their dynamic was such that marriage didn't materially change the show.

Caskett, on the other hand, was meant to be from the get-go. They were destined, and had, to get married. But once that happened some of the show's allure faded; couldn't be helped. Castle kept going because of the continuing chemistry of its stars. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to sustain the audience, nor provide sufficient material to grow the characters.

reply

Okay, Knockdown was FANTASTIC. Easily the best episode thus far. Pretty intense.

I may or may not have watched that kiss about 10 times. Just saying.

reply

Ahah glad you enjoyed it. You got a lot mooooore incoming. Enjoy the ride 

reply

LOL. Me too.

What? Not Nikki Heat?

It will. In time.

Have to disagree on that. It happens. And I have been there to see it. Last I checked I was not a fiction character, so I guess it counts as an experience in the real world. If you do not pay any heed to that consistent theory, that we all live in a Matrix that is.

Again from my experience, most of the time love matter defies logic. It is the most irrational feeling.

I think Filion makes the show, but Stana and her supporting actors make a great cast.

Having watched all the seasons I can't really make that separation anymore. For me there were no supporting, or lead characters. All had a well thought of place in the whole picture, equally contributing to the show's success.

Enjoy watching! It was a show which I followed with great interest during the years. And now that it has ended I can hardly believe the long time which have passed since its beginning...

You are a stronger human than I apparently.

reply

Ah, yes. He's a military officer with a great sense of humor and a strong sense of the human condition.

reply

You honor me Skip. Your high opinion of me is paralleled only by mine for you. Really hoping I will had the chance to meet you in person one day on your home soil, given, of course that Trump didn't manage to build a wall around all the USA yet. And of course I want to extend again my invitation for you, RbaY and Spayer to visit me on my own turf.

reply

Human? I left my humanity long ago...( Really couldn't have passed the chance to make that reference to Medivh from WarCraft III)

But all in all there are no better or stronger humans, than what a person allows him or herself to become. There are more experienced, sure, but experience comes in time to all of us. Unfortunately whether we like it or not. If anything, from my experience I have gained patience. And that is the only thing an officer could hope for, given the amount of firearms we are around every day. Hahah...

GAH!!! SEASON THREE FINALE!!!

reply

So you hated it because it was poorly written, Beckett was shot, was stupid, or something else?

reply

None of those. It was so freaking good. I just wasn't mentally prepared. The show has gotten much better IMO.

Started season 4. Is it just me or is there a more serious undertone?

reply

Congratulations - we all had our stomachs in a knot back in the day, given the severity of Beckett's wounds and the fact that she was shot by a professional. Will she survive or not was the question...
The show will become become more dark in certain occasions. Primarily in the storyline around Beckett's mother and some others, which I will not mention, because it won't be fair to spoil your experience. But there will be plenty of goofy ( in the good sense) episodes, yet to come, so you won't have the feeling you are just watching another crime drama.
Ah, yeah, but you might want to close your eyes on season 8. Especially the final episode. Trust me, otherwise you will want to pay a visit to the showrunners. With a sharp object. And perform a ritual with them. Dark ritual.

reply

I've heard :(. I am not sure it can be worse than the Dexter finale, but we will see I suppose.

Man, I hate when shows unravel. I've only felt good about Spartans and The Wire. Maybe Sex and the City ;).

reply

Ah, no it isn't worse than Dexter. Just bittersweet (only more bitter than sweet).

reply

Ugh, good luck with that. I absolutely despised the fourth season. Somebody got really carried away with the dark and depressing story lines. Heck, even the color they filmed it in is saddening.

But, there are a few good episodes. I really enjoyed Cuffed (2011) and The Blue Butterfly (2012).

Wait until the fifth season starts. It'll be like a breath of fresh air.

reply

I agree with you! There was a different filter or something. The goofball Castle seems to be lesser in these.

I really enjoyed season 3 though. To Love and Die in LA was great. I found myself yelling at the screen, but ya know..

reply

It's darker because of Beckett's shooting. It is very good, though. Most here seem to think seasons 3&4 are the best of the series. I agree. Enjoy it.
