IMDb's new policy

Well, personally for me it is nothing short of censorship. Let's see their personal quote -

IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience

I am speechless. Not a positive, useful experience? Positive and useful for whom? Them? The producers, the actorcast, the writers of shows? To whom we are supposed to provide a positive and useful experience? We are the audience for crying out loud, not some test group, which is supposed to yield some interesting results, after a certain amount of time. We all have different opinions and different personalities, but we have gathered here to discuss our favorite shows and movies. We are here to bicker, to hate, to argue, to love, to defend and to write long and useless comments, which probably nobody is going to read, about our favorite entertainments. I, personally thoroughly enjoyed my conversations, heated discussions, criticism and arguments which I had here and on other numerous boards with my fellow colleagues. And I hold no grudge for anybody who has not agreed with my lines of thought.
The current situation kind of reminds me of the first years, when we had Internet in Bulgaria. The forums were ruled by immature persons with a lot of issues, which were deleting every comment, which was not to their liking. Problem is, these were teenagers. What is the excuse of IMDb?
What I see is a forcible attempt to deprive the IMDb's users of their relative anonymity and oblige them to use social networks to leave comments and opinions in these discussions. I for one have no problem with that - as is obvious I am using my real name here for my account, albeit not a picture of myself. But a lot of other people might decide that they wish their anonymity preserved. And it seems that it is exactly what IMDb is trying to take from them.
And even if closing the boards make some vague sense, the disabling of the message system is a madness plain and simple.
Well... I guess that's about it. Thanks to Skip, Spayer, RbaY, Reader, Grant and many others for that "positive and useful experience". Whether we agreed or not, it was interesting for me. If somebody wants to stay in touch - here is my mail - [email protected]
Could be used to track me on Facebook as well.

It almost certainly came from Amazon. A few months later they also discontinued all Amazon Forums.

Both decisions were short-sighted, and almost certainly have cost both sites traffic. But in particular, I regretted the loss of so MUCH information in the IMDB boards. I was greatly relieved to find them preserved here.
