Storytelling across different media...?

Hey guys, just wondering what your views are on transmedia storytelling with this franchise. As can be seen, this particular story has been fleshed out across multiple media platform.

I was just wondering whether you feel that this a valuable way of developing the plot better or do you believe the studios are simply cashing in on the existing fanbase from the original material?

Also, how else would you like to see this taken advantage of? ie as seen with the Matrix or Star Wars franchises where the story has been spread across from film, to animation, to games etc. What other media forms do you believe would be good places to branch this story across to?

Any responses appreciated :D

I like that they expand the universe and use the different mediums to do it, as long as they do it right and not just average by-products for some extra cash. The Butcher Bay game is a great game and of high quality, Dark Athena looks very cool as well, so as long as they produce the games like that (Vin is very much involved, the story can be considered canon), I would be happy to get more games in the future, where they cover things they can't in the movies for different reasons, while at the same time give you the badass experience to play as Riddick and just get some entertainment in that world...

Besides the novelizations I think that comics/graphic novels would be cool. Maybe a mini-series about Kyra (between PB and TCOR), about Toombs, about Johns, about the Wailing Wars and interesting stuff that they didn't really get to explore yet in the films or the games.

As with any kind of story telling, if it's well done, then using different media is a great idea. In the case of these games, getting to play as Riddick while telling more of his story makes it very enjoyable experience for me.

I'm not an actor. I just play one on TV.
