may be a stupid question...

but is the filming for this over? the actors aren't on set anymore, correct?
i'm assuming not, but i figured i would check to make sure... probably everyone is home by now

Well, I'm not sure either, but the program description lists merely eight episodes, so "The Philanthropist" must have run for a partial season, in 2009.

Now, this certainly sounds like a promising and exciting program, but today's the first in which I've ever heard of this series.

So, why didn't IMDb announce nor even mention it? Or was it obviously on one of those cable channels which no one receives? That may likely have been the case.

It aired on NBC, I believe, in the middle of the summer of 2009. I don't think NBC knew what to do with the series, and it didn't draw up a lot of viewers either. Sad too, because it started to settle into something interesting in the last few episodes.

As per standard NBC executives they screwed up. SEE: Journeyman, My Own Worst Enemy, etc. They have a great eye for shows, but poor programming decisions and they pull out just when shows are showing traction. This seems to be a common thread recently. However they did in fact cancel this fantastic show, probably to spend mre money on Law & Order...
