10/10..the best movie in years!! Why is this not in IMDB top 250 list??

I just finished watching the movie and just cannot think of any movie that was this captivating and mesmerizing. This is definitely the best Korean movie ever and the best movie in any language in last few years!!!!
I had seen The Host from this director ..but it was no nothing compared to this one. It will be a major upset if this does not win the Oscars this year for the best foreign film!!
Also why is this movie not in the IMDB top 250 movies list??

The Host and Memories of Murder deserve to be in the top 250, this movie however does not.

I agree. This film is a masterpiece and I am confounded as to why it didn't end up on more critics' top ten lists for 2010. I saw it in theaters and was utterly stunned by it.

just saw it on dvd tonight- best film i've seen in a while. i give it 9/10. definitely becoming a fan of korean cinema

i agree with you that it was better than the host, but if you're looking for something more captivating and mesmerizing check out The Chaser (though a lot tougher to watch). I definitely wouldn't regard Mother as the best korean movie ever, check out oldboy, my sassiy girl, memories of a murder...

Is it buggery. It's a good film, but there are many better Korean movies. Calm yourself down.

It is a brilliant film, and I'm glad it got an oscar nomination, but I wouldn't say it's the best Korean film of all time. Korea has knocked out some of the best films of the past decade. This one was very good but it doesn't beat Oldboy in my opinion. That said, it's my favourie film from this particular director.

I gave it a 6/10. It's not close to being one of the best movies of the year. I do like that it had a dark endings as opposed to American films but The King's Speech held my interest more than this movie. As far as more 'thriller' movies go, I'd have to say The Ghost Writer was also more interesting.

The acting was fine but the story dragged in a few places.

Korean American watching this movie and i thought it was perfect. I give it a 8/10. This movie is very realistic. South Korean general public is not as sympathetic as Americans are to mental illness's. Small town cops are somewhat lazy/corrupt. I felt every scene had a meaning to the overall plot. Each scene had a purpose and was not too redundant.

This film is definitely not for everybody though. Very dark. Very bleak. Very personal movie.

It's quite interesting to read a foreigners review b/c a lot of Korean drama scenes find irony/comedy in simple Korean lifestyles. IE the overbearing mother... The sex scene where the guy and girl are playing word game during sex.

The ending is perfect. There really is nothing analogous to those "woman bus trip tours." They usually end up at some scenic national park, or mountain. These woman are usually 50-65s of age and don't really have funds to travel abroad. In essence, these woman are feeling like they are going to Las Vegas or Cancun with there girlfriends. No stress No worries like every vacation.

Quite the opposite of what she is supposed to be feeling. Then she does the acupuncture technique and ignorance becomes bliss.

I like everything Bong has made, Mother is clearly far more ambitious, and equally effective, in it's portray of moral dilemmas. The motivations of the characters, why they do what they do, the outcomes. While Memories of Murder is a great thriller, and The Host a lot of fun, Mother is more of a character study, while at the same time twisting genre conventions in many ways. After watching MoM and The Host there was really nothing else to think about, but with Mother i kept going back, thinking about the characters and the situations. It's one of the best movies from the past decade for sure, but i guess many saw this as just "another crime thriller" thus dismissing the whole thing.

This movie is very good,but Memories of Murder is a instant classic! You should watch that movie,if it can't go to the list then how Madeo can?

i agree....i think memories of murder is the better film, this was good also but mom gave me goosebumps throughout and was 10/10 for me....mother 8/10 i believe.

4/5 from me, or an 8/10 on IMDb, and I give a $h|^load of 5/5s or 10/10s. So a good film, but not something that would be in a personal Top 250 (or even 1000--I've given way more than a thousand 5/5s in my life) for me either.
