shareI was thinking this as well...it is quite possible the poison impaired his mental health... and not the other way round - I don't think she poisoned him because he was mentally challenged.. maybe they were going through poverty or something else terrible that made her lose it and try to kill both of them...
shareEither that or the "medicine" she mentioned taking in her pregnancy and recommending to a customer, later even asking about it, to get as "handsome" a child as hers (which are scenes of black humour but probably innocent on her part).

There was a Norman Bates relationship between the pair and weather he was born slow or not she still destroyed any chance of him being well adjusted or 'normal'
I've seen plenty of slow people who manage to live independent lives
There are loads of cases like this where the mother can't bear being alone so they cling to there child and they get a co dependency- and these are usually the kind of men who get fitted up for murders they may or may not have commited
She even Kills someone rather than accept the truth
In the end he wasn't a sicko or anything he was extremely unlucky and in his innocent mind at least tried to do the right thing but maybe the whole thing brought the realization to her on what she had created and how inept her son really was
True. I know plenty of provincial mothers who remove their kids from school because they're lonely. Selfish no?
