I WANT TO GO TO IRELAND!!!

After watching this movie, I just want to go to Ireland, get lost, and find this guy. Didn't find him that attractive at the beginning of the film, totally loved him by the end! Personality and character really do make a man cuter or less attractive. Most attractive men I've known are guys I didn't pay much attention to at first glance but whose character changed my perception of their physical appearance greatly.

Anyhoo, I just want to go to Ireland now! :)

But what if your plane is diverted over Ireland and lands in Wales?

What if you met an Irishman like this...

Ireland is nothing like it is in this film!!! this film gives a horrible backwards impression of us!!!! people arent stupid and there are big cities, irish people arent like people in this film!!! AND NO ONE SAYS "top of the morning to yee"!!!!

reply

Exactly. Tidily eyed *beep* Ireland and Dublin are better represented in films like Intermission and Adam and Paul or even Once.

Looks at the links posted above.

reply

To be honest I'm the fiercest critic of any film that portrays us as a backwards bunch of *beep* and this film does. But it still pulled a few of my heart strings. And I've never been so attracted to Amy Adams.

reply

You shouldnt take it that unkindly. Even I, who hasnt stepped out of my country once, knew immediately that this is one quaint journey through the countryside.
And it did make me want to visit Ireland and Wales!

reply

How did I take it unkindly?

We have to show the world that not all of us are like him: Henning von Tresckow.

reply

Actually my reason was because the lead character found herself stranded and met this guy along the way who she ended up falling for who I fell in love with along with her, so my reasoning is that I want to go to Ireland to find the same kind of romance. However, I know that's not reality. It's just dreaming.

Sorry you feel the movie did a poor job at accurately portraying your people. I've felt that experience in movies before for where I live. I expect Hollywood to make fun of people for the sake of comedy, annoying though it may be. I had a friend visit Ireland. She said it was absolutely beautiful and loved it there. And I do like the Irish accent. :)

O.P. you're a bit naive, lol. Forget how Ireland is portrayed. Love stories like this just don't happen. They are fictional...dramatized for the movies. Chances are your trip would be NOTHING and I mean NOTHING like what Amy Adams' character goes through in this movie. Things like that just don't happen...sorry, and IF they do, they are extremely rare.

Silence is the best reply to a fool.

reply

I respectfully disagree with your post because some love stories DO HAPPEN like this. When I was a freshman in college, I was in my music practice room singing a song called "Blue Are His Eyes." In the middle of everything, someone knocked on the door, and it proved to be a young man with brown eyes. He still remains the great love of my life, so that romantic meetings, however, ironic, CAN and DO happen in real life.

reply

First of all, Hollywood always gives a bad backwards portrayal of any country that ISN'T the USA. They want to believe their country is the only "civilized" country, so don't be too offended by how they portray it. Being Mexican, I can assure you I NEVER believe any country is the way it is portrayed in a movie, and I think most people don't either.

I want to go to Ireland, but not because of how the people are portrayed. I've heard great things about it. I love the scenery in most movies filmed in Ireland, plus the history, the castles, I really do want to visit it some day, and not because of Hollywood.

Well now that the Celtic Tiger era has passed and the youth are forced to emigrate again it is.

It's one of those countries that you've got to visit though; Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Mayo and Galway.

Ireland is ANYTHING like that abomination of this movie.

This is a romantic comedy so anywhere in Europe is likely to be considered in the dark ages.

I'd consider these...

As for this movie not really representing Ireland, that makes me a little sad. I would love little towns like the ones portrayed in the movie.

Oh c'mon! You knew that all along surely, but Ireland does have beautiful rural towns and villages but most countries do. The difference is that people think that is Ireland.

ive studies in ireland for the longest time and may I tell you, its fun and beautiful the first 6 months but when youve lived there longer, its gets really dull and depressing. Except when its not raining and the suns up, then you know your going to have a good day! Irish people are nice though but make sure you get home before evening because that when the drunk brawls start to happen, scary!

i live in a very bad neighborhood next to st. stephens and i tell you, its just like that. ive seen three people get killed infront of my complex already! but im sure other places like cork and gallaway are better. i loved belfast in Northern Ireland very much.

theres places like that all over the country! and even the world!!! i live in limerick or "stab city", ive seen and heard a lot of *beep* goin on around me too! its the isolated bad neighbourhoods thats constantly being focussed on! yeah youve experienced horrible things where you live, but there must be good things around you too!! limerick sure has got its bad reputation, but theres a lot of nice places to go, and lovely cultural things to see here too! "gallaway"??? :D

Evershield if you live right in the city centre of Dublin you can expect trouble - as in any city in any country in the world !
You make out like when the sun goes down all we do is get drunk and fight (stereotype anyone!?) you should go travel around the country its beautiful!

reply

evershield. You are an ignoramus, plain and simple.

He/she said they live there. How are they an ignoramus when they are giving a true personal account of their experiences?

reply

By his own admission he accepted that it was just a rough neighbourhood yet he said 'Ireland' and 'The Irish' in general. That to me is ignorance. It's like me saying I don't want to go to America because I'll be shot, approached by hookers on every corner and offered meth by back people.

Your's sincerely, General Joseph Liebgott

That's fair enough, maybe you could have explained that initially though

I just returned from 12 days in Ireland - Dublin, Galway, Killarney, Cork, Kilkenny. I didn't meet anyone like the characters in the movie including Declan (sigh). BUT the scenery and people were amazing. I definitely want to go back!

reply

Ireland mmmm. Dublin I found to be a very friendly city, great pubs but so expensive. Not a particularly pretty place. Belfast kind of similar, but there is always an edge there. Cork, smaller and wonderfully friendly place. Great women!!!!!
I really like the smaller towns and villages though. Great people and personalities. There always someone with an amusing story to tell and the countryside and scenery are fantastic.

i apologize for my ignorance my dear friends. Probably I just live in a dangerous neighborhood.
