How did Coral (Paz Vega) get those government transcripts?

She said "the government turned it over on discovering my mistake." WHAT? What mistake? And why would said mistake lead the government to give to the girlfriend of a drug dealer?

What were the "grand jury transcripts" exactly? Were they transcripts of interviews between Blandon and Dodson? What exactly kind of lawyer was Dodson? Like, who did he work for? And how much did he know about the CIA turning their head on the drug smuggling? Was he in on it or did he find out what was going on and decided to keep protecting the secret?

In an article. "Webb was convinced the CIA turned a blind eye to accusations that some of the CIA-supported Nicaraguan Contras made money by smuggling drugs into the U.S. In turn, the contras used that money to buy weapons to fight the socialist Sandinista government in Nicaragua, which the U.S. government opposed."

What did the U.S government oppose? They opposed the contras using the money to buy weapons?? Or they opposed the Sandinista government? The sentence isn't clear. Was the Sandinista govt. a communist government?

Where did the U.S. stand in all of this? Did they want these CIA-supported Nicaraguan Contras to overthrow the government? Is that why they "turned their eye" with all the drug smuggling that was, in turn, making money for these CIA-supported Nicaraguan Contras?

I need a lot of this movie cleared up for me. It's easy to understand on a face-value level... but digging deep, you find A TON of unanswered questions or plot points that require far too much esoteric knowledge.

No. They —the CIA— supported the Contra to fight sandinists. Well, "supported" or even managed (remember Bahía de Cochinos).

as to your first question, she said "The government turned it over on discovery by mistake." discovery is a part of a lawsuit where both sides are required to share some information with each other to make it fair.

Discovery is the pre-trial procedure in a lawsuit in which each party can obtain evidence from the opposing party including requests for answers to interrogatories, requests for production of documents, requests for admissions and depositions.

She is interviewed in the doc "Freeway Crack in the system" but I'm only a little it into it so far she hasn't said how she (in reality) ended up with boxes and boxes of sealed grand jury testimony.

Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one. B. Franklin

I'm going to say with no inside information but a fair amount of certainty that the one box she delivered to Mr. Webb's house in the movie was not sealed testimony. There would be many related documents which would be public records of open court testimony etc.

The "boxes and boxes" you saw would be what Mr. Webb collected in the course of his investigation. Interviews with him about his book said he had 70 sources (or 70 pages of source notes) I forget. Either way, he would have collected a lot of papers.

The transcripts she was referring to was from the case against her boyfriend, one Rafael Cornejo. Blandon was the chief witness against him.

And Blandon's testimony (at any trial) is misrepresented in this film. He was never told by anyone with the CIA to sell drugs.

If it was a mistake.....it wasn't unusual. Prosecutors make mistakes like anyone else.

Yes.
