Cars 2 is the only Pixar movie I do not have in my DVD collection
And it will definitely stay that way. This wasn't made because John Lasseter "loves automobiles," it was made because Disney/Pixar loves MONEY and the merchandising from the first Cars movie was through the roof.
Story is king. That's what John Lasseter always says, and that's why Pixar has seen so much success with just about all of its other films. Cars 2 feels like a 2nd-tier Dreamworks Animation movie...loud, dumb, and exceedingly violent for a G-rated film. I'm still puzzled why movies like Up or Wreck-it-Ralph or The Lego Movie get PG ratings for thematic elements and stylized violence, yet Cars 2 gets a G for toilet humor, torture scenes, gruesome and violent deaths of characters, etc.
The ONLY silver lining to Cars 2 that I can think of, is the fact that its merchandising profits will help bankroll future original Pixar stories.
