Two things i wanted to know:

1) Why did they leave Maka's mother such a mystery? We never see her, i assume the manga did this differently. It's weird to speak so highly of a character that never appears in the series.

2) I wanted to see Death's face. How come he didn't take his mask off after he got all beat up at the end? Maybe he has a silly looking face and doesn't want his subordinates to lose respect for him?

1: Maka's mother is never shown in the manga either, only referenced like in the show.

2: The manga never shows his face either. It's left a mystery to what he looks like, though there are theories. Specifically with how Kid looks, as well as (in the manga) Asura is revealed to be his eldest son. Though that's simply theory, as he could not have a human appearance at all.
